Settle Down...
Despite being in first place, EWU's RPI has gone from 40 to 60 since the conference season started. The Big Sky is that bad. That loss will look worse and worse on our resume each week.
Georgetown has played an extremely tough schedule, and if they string a few more good wins together, and avoid any bad losses, they will have a strong resume, but they are still 3-5 against top-50 teams. It's not as bad of a loss as EWU, but calling it a "good" loss is a stretch.
We have a chance to make a statement now. Our next three games are:
Home against Kenpom #16, RPI #13, with an 8-2 top-100 record. A chance to get a resume-defining win.
Away against Kenpom #22, RPI #57, supposedly good team, but with crappy tourney resume. Not saying we should expect a win as guaranteed, but if we are a legit team, we should have a chance here.
Away against Kenpom #72, RPI #99, a team hard to figure out, tournament-quality in the top half of the resume (4-4 top-100), but not so much on the bottom half (2-3 vs. 101-200). Before the season, I had this pegged as a loss, but I think it's a game we need to win. And I don't think it's crazy to think we will.
Everyone is looking at 1-2 being acceptable, 2-1 being great. I don't agree. I think we need to expect 2-1 these next three games, with a strong eye toward winning all three. If we only win 1, or worse, none, then any talk about "We could be top ten!" will be exposed as wishful thinking.
It's certainly possible we're the best four-loss team in the country. But we haven't played enough good teams to make that claim. UNC, Texas, Baylor, Ok. State, Iowa, Seton Hall and others all have at least 4 losses, and many of them have much more impressive resumes than we do.
