IU started the period with a turnover. Illinois started the period on a 4-0 run to take a 22-17 lead. The Illini hit their first three shots of the period and led 24-22 with just over 7 minutes left.

The Illini are taking the ball right down the lane for easy scores and they had a 28-24 lead with under 7 minutes to play in the half.

IU can't stop the drives down the lane by the Ilini and the Illini have scored on four straight layups off of drives and had a 32-24 lead and a timeout with 5:47 to play in the half.

On another drive to the basket, the Illini went to the line and hit two FTs to make it 34-24 Illinois and they were on an 8-0 run.

IU broke the 8-0 run on a basket, but the Illini scored another layup to keep the lead at 10. IU got a basket but the Illini continued to score at will on layups and had a 14-point lead with under 3 minutes in the half.

Illinois continued to score at will around the basket and put the lead at 16 points, 42-26. Holmes and Moore-McNeil both had two fouls at this point.

Halftime: Illinois 44 IU 28

IU is going to have to find a way to stop the drives to the basket by Illinois. When the outside shots cooled off for Illinois, they changed their attack to drives to the basket and I counted 11 layups in the 2nd period alone by the Illini, and counting the two layups in the 1st period, they scored 26 of their 44 points on layups. They also scored on little jump shots within five feet of the bucket.

IU was ice cold from the field in the 2nd period with the Illini scoring at will to build up the lead.

IU shot just 37.9 pct from the field, 14.3 pct on 3s, and 5-5 on FTs. They were 5-5 on FT.

Illinois was 60.6 pct from the field and 25.0 pct on 3s. They were 3 of 5 at the line.

3rd period:

IU started the period on a 7-0 run to cut into the margin, but Illinois responded with 7 points to put the lead back to 16 points.

A 3-ball by Scalia cut the IIlini lead to 11 points 51-40 nearing the midway point.

A 3-ball by Moore-McNeil cut the lead to 53-43 at a 3:57 timeout.

Back-to-back 3s by the Illini out of the timeout put the lead back up to 16.

End of 3rd: Illinois 61 IU 47

IU had the lead down to 9 points but the Illini kept building it back up. IU outscored the Illini by two points in the period, and they needed to do better than that.

4th period:

Scalia nailed a 3 to start the period to cut the lead to 11 points at 61-50.

The Illini built the lead back up to 15 points with Holmes on the bench with her 4th foul.

Holmes reentered the game with under 8 minutes left. A basket by Holmes cut lead back down to 11 points at 65-54 with under 7 minutes left.

A basket by Scalia cut the lead to 9 points, but another layup by the Illini put it back up to 11.

At a tv timeout, IU had cut the lead back down to 9 at 67-58 with 6:08 left.

It was Illinois 71 IU 59 at a TV timeout at 4:45. IU just had a turnover on a shot clock violation which is something you can't do at this point in the game.

A basket by Garzon cut the lead to 10 at 71-61. 4:17 left. Another basket by Garzon cut it to an 8-point lead, but IU gave up another layup to make it 73-63 Illinois.

It was 75-63 with just over two minutes left.

Final: Illinois IU

When you have a bullseye on your back you had better be ready for a team's best shot when you go on the road. IU lost the game in the 2nd period when they gave up 11 layups in that period and was outscored 26-11.

When IU loses this season, they lose big and all four losses have been by big margins. IU can expect other teams to start driving the lane like it is an expressway against IU.

Illinois played just six players in the game and all six players were in double figures today.

It made no sense to foul like IU did in the final minute when the game was over, and all it did was make an embarrassing loss even more embarrassing as the Illini padded the score from the line.

Holmes finished with 24 points while Garzon had 17 points.
