Hagerstown , SR 38 runs through and I think they used to at least, have an outdoor theater in the summer?

It's a small town of around 1700 people and from what I read, the consolidated jr/sr high school only has around 500 kids. It will be interesting to see what their sports teams do over the next 6-7 years. Makes me think of Brownsburg when they went all those years ago. That team had guys that ended up in the MLB and minors. I though Hayward was on the '01 team, but looks like I was wrong.

I went to college with a guy from Hagerstown, but had to look it up: halfway between New Castle and Richmond. He was a funny guy: good student, but to study he'd sit in his room with music cranked and oftentimes I believe a bong was involved!

Haven't seen it posted anywhere yet. I'm going to have to get some Hagerstown gear.

They play Iowa at 3EDT on Thursday.
Yeah. I caught that game against Kentucky that sent them there. Was rooting for those kids. Hope they do well and happy for them.

Being involved in baseball for kids is so much fun. I miss it.

Thanks for posting. I caught part of their regional game against a KY team; maybe that was the final that sent them on? Always a good watch! Good luck Hagerstown!
Pretty sure that was the game that got them in. I saw that as well. It was actually a fun game to watch.

That explains the good grades

The boys are playing really well 7-1 in the 3rd. The pitcher for Hagerstown says he wants to play basketball before baseball. He sure looks tall enough. Might want to check that kid's birth certificate.
You believe in God with no proof, yet you want this kid's birth certificate.

I didn't bring God into this, but there is plenty of proof in the existence of God. The nature of the Universe displays not a random chaotic creation but an orderly one. In one cell in the human body there is more than enough information to fill up a library if it was typed out. Then there is the biblical evidence of Old Testament prophecies which are fulfilled in the New Testament. There is the miracles of Jesus which are attested by non biblical writers who are Roman. Then the greatest evidence is the Resurrection of Jesus which if it could have been showed to be false then Christianity would not have made it out of the First Century.
Of course I was joking about the kid's age. Obviously he is very tall. It was noticeable. His comment about playing basketball shows he is very tall for his age.

It was looking bleak for a minute, but Mighty Hagerstown caught a break.
Was it on last night; and if so, what time? Was wanting to get home and watch, but I thought I saw it started at 3pm and I knew I wasn't going to make it home before 5.

They had a weather delay that pushed it back 2 hours. I turned it on around 5:30 and it was bottom of the 2nd.

Oh shit. Shortstops career is over.
I hate to see a game end like that, just for the kid. He got greedy trying to make a double play. The only people feeling worse than the kid are the kid's parents. The kid will remember that play for the rest of his life. Ask me how I know. Anybody said, "How do you know?" Thanks, I was afraid you'd never ask. I was playing in a peewee league at short stop. It was the last game of the season. Our team wasn't very good but we had the best team by the balls. Last inning, two outs, runners on, when a moderately hard hit came my way, right to me. All I had to do is catch it. My mitt had lacings that had previously broken so the ball sailed right through the webbing. My older brother was pitching for us. It would have been a nice way to end the season, on a positive note. The coaches still treated us to ice cream cones afterwards, but to this day it is still the least enjoyable ice cream cone experience of my life. I never really enjoyed the game after that.

At least it was decided on the field. I was watching one of the qualifiers leading up to the LLWS. Winner goes to Williamsport. tied in bottom 6th with runner on first and 1 out. 3rd base ump calls a foul ball down the line and kids in the field stop their rotation while the left fielder slows to a dog trot. HP ump says fair and 3rd base coach is waving a runner home for the winning run. They go back to the replay and 3rd base ump clearly has both hands up calling it foul. Decision is made it was fair. Game over.

I saw that....horrible way to end the game. The grown-ups really blew that one.

Yeah. I thought the losing coach handled it well too. He went over and concentrated on his kids instead of going ape bleep on the umps, who I didn't realize were all volunteers until that happened.

IMO, not the way it should have been handled. Once that ump called FB, that is it. The home plate umpire can not overrule him. Dead ball. Even if the call from the field is wrong, you can't undo a dead ball!

They did though. They screwed the team in the field with that call way more than they would have screwed the team at bat had they let the called foul ball stand.

I've never seen anything like it. 3rd base ump clearly called it foul.

That's a condensed version of the replay process. In real time, the announcers were saying that that the foul call was obvious with both hands being raised.

What’s it matter what the ump called if there’s replay? They said if it looked obviously foul on replay it could be overturned.

Blame it on the frailty of the human condition. We screw up sometimes, no matter how hard we try not to. What the eyes see and the mind thinks aren't in perfect sync. We're not at that point, yet, in evolution where mistakes aren't made. In the meantime, maybe they'll soon have laser beams pointed down the foul line to make the call for us, utilizing a microchip to eliminate the possibility of human error.

I didn't bring BS into this, but there is plenty of proof in the existence of BS. The nature of the Universe displays not a random chaotic creation but an orderly one. In one cell in the human body there is more than enough information to fill up a library if it was typed out. Not that physics and evolution have anything to do with BS, but then there is the BS of Old Testament prophecies which are re-excreted in the New Testament. There is the BS miracles of Jesus which are attested by BS writers who are Roman. Then the greatest BS is the resurrection of Jesus which if it could have been showed to be false then BS would not have made it out of the First Century.
FIFY. Well as much as something so broken can be. And by the way, not showing a thing to be false does not magically make it true.

Because when the kids see this, they're rightfully thinking it's a foul ball.

Either the 3rd base ump should have deferred to the HP ump for the call, or vice versa. The kids were reacting to the 3rdbase ump calling a foul.

I agree 100% on mistakes being made. See my comment above about the coach not being a jackass about the call and heading back to his kids after the loss.

The ball bounced before going over the bag, fair ball. I believe that is the HP umpire's call since the ball bounced before 3B. If the ball reaches 3B before bouncing, it is the 3B ump's call. 3B ump was wrong but it wasn't his call.

Absolutely right. I couldn't hear the 3B ump, I wonder if he raised his hands but yelled fair? That happens too. Maybe he didn't yell anything which is what you are supposed to do for a fair ball even though raising his hands denotes foul. If he yelled foul then it is a dead ball right or wrong and he has egg on his face.

He raised his hands, which is foul ball, dead ball, time out. Doesn't matter what he or the HP ump said. The signal was foul ball. If it wasn't his call (which I think is the case), he should have just kept his hands down.

I learned the hard way umping that you keep your mouth shut and hands quiet if it's not your call or if your silence/non gesture means something.
