When (undeservedly) named championship game MVP, Connor Cook strode up to Archie Griffin, the man whose name is on the trophy he was receiving, snatched it out of his hands without looking at him or saying anything, then brushed by him for his interview. All this after Jim Delaney was talking about "Big Ten class" by asking the MSU fans to applaud Iowa's team and effort.
Cook is rightfully getting beaten up on Twitter right now for coming off as a punk with the move. Based on a few things I noticed at the end of the game, though, I think it's probably his full-time posture and it's wearing on his teammates. I noticed he bypassed celebrating with the team at the end of the game, opting to go find his parents. Fair enough. Then when he made it to the podium, he kind of stood off on his own until his name was called. Then when he got to the mic, his teammates all sort of abandoned him on the podium.
I'd bet there will be some sort of public apology issued by MSU's athletic dept on Cook's behalf coming down the pike. I'm sure if and when he sees an NFL field someday, there may be some proud OSU grad on the other side of the ball looking to relocate his kneecap.
