How God awful has this franchise become? I remember how much fun it was to live in Indy for a short stretch from ‘95-‘97…. Never made it even to the finals those years but damn they were fun to watch…

If they get the number one pick they will win a lot of games going forward. Victor, best prospect since Lebron. Scoots will be an all star as well at the #2 pick.

They have a plan. Really young. That 1 spot in the draft would be awesome. My sister his very quiet about their plan. She keeps saying,”just wait”.

The east was brutal still.

There “plan” has been percolating for about 20 years now…😂
That's just not true. Pacers made the playoffs 10 out of 11 years from 10-11 to 19-20 seasons. They went for it all in 13 and 14, just couldn't get past LeBron and his squad in the conference finals. Their nucleus blew up and they couldn't get long term deals done with their young players in the following years.

The NBA is a superstar league. You need at least two, if not three to have a chance. Pacers are a small market team, they just aren't going to land top tier free agents. They have to build their team through the draft. Limping into the playoffs as a 7-8 seed just isn't going to cut it, they finally have realized this. Pacers went out and traded for a budding superstar in Haliburton and drafted Mathurin who through 6 games appears he is going to be all-world. They need a third guy. Wembenyana is that guy. It's the same recipe the Thunder used when they landed Durant, Westbrook, and Harden in consecutive drafts. Same with the Warriors.

Well they have some really good guards in Duarte, Haliburton, Hield, Nembhardt, and Mathurin. They also have Miles Turner. So they have a core backcourt they can build around. And they have trade assets to go after whoever they covet.

Its too early in the season to know how many ping pong balls they'll get in the lottery. Those players I mentioned are good enough to win some games.

If they do hit the lottery and get one of the top 2 picks, that just accelerates their plans, I would bet. If they don't, which obviously is more likely, they still...

1. Will have good young guards to build around.
2. Have coveted trade assets to use how they see fit.
3. Should have some money to go after free agents, and/or build around their young stars with really quality veterans.

Duarte, Haliburton, Mathurin
All Star level player they could trade for with Turner and Heild
Top 10-15 ish player in the draft
3-4 good, productive, Veterans

That's a playoff calibur lineup next year.

If they happen to get one of the top 2 picks, instead of a late lottery pick, that just makes them even better.

Myles Turner is a bum. They should have traded him years ago.

Agree completely. They want to build from this young talent. As @Cavanagh says, “they have some dog in them”.

This is accurate. Great post. They will take lumps but boy do they have some nice young players.

Hield and Turner will be dealt by the tradeline if I had to guess. Need Hield to continue to play well to keep his trade value and while Turner's injury is unfortunate, his expiring contract will make him a lucrative rental for a team looking to make a playoff push. Those two combined make nearly $40mil which is nearly half the current payroll. That easily gives the Pacers the luxury to lock up Haliburton long term and they have Duarte, Mathurin, and this coming drafts picks under team control for a considerable amount of time.

Many think this. She won’t bite when I smile and ask. She won’t even hint. Strong with the force that one.

Idk who your sister is or why she would care, but what I said is what 95% of Pacers fans have been saying for the last 5 years.
She is an executive for the Pacers and Pacers fans are also known for their great insight. Remember they booed because they drafted Miller over Alford. (They also burned his house)They also questioned gettin ONeal. I’ll go with executive team for 1000.

It’s kinda hard to argue he’s worth his contract given his poor production and constant injuries.

geez, I'm not as sold on Haliburton as most folks are, solid player yes, protentional superstar, I don't know

14 and 7
17 and 9
22 and 10

Those are his stats the last 3 years...his numbers tell the story. He's a stud. And if/when he's surrounded by good wings and bigs, he'll become more of a household name. NBA experts and execs know that, its why so many were surprised, even pissed, at the Kings for making the trade they did with him in it. He alone is probably more valuable than Sabonis, both near and long term.

Agreed. They'll deal him here "soon", I'm sure. Just hope he's able to put some solid play together before then, so they can maximize his value. Hield/Turner for Westbrook wouldn't surprise me at all at this point.

But are they insightful as well? Never thought of Pacer Nation as inciteful but torching someone's house would seem to fit the bill. 🍏
Oh crap. 🤣🤦🏻 Who here misspelled and didn’t recheck his work?🙋🏻‍♂️ Correctable words for 1000.

That was Lisa “left eye” Lopez torching Andre Rison mansion. A crazy fan torched Millers house because o a rumor he was leaving Indy. 🤦🏻
The rumor was his wife burned it down. She was nuts. The day of she ran into my wife’s salon drunk bashing Reggie. They had to call cops/Reggie to come and get her

So will JHS at #3. 😉

Only thing that scares the shit out of me from what I have read and heard is that JHS one flaw is of course 3 point shooting. All we freaking have to do is be 35-36% from three just top 75-100ish area. Since Crean left we have never been top 200 in three point shooting. That is so infuriating. IT IS INDIANA, WTF.

Hit 8-9 a game with that defense. Need to take them down to Bryan Park on a Tuesday. Somebody’s uncle in a wife beater can teach them. 🤣

I completely agree with you. If IU had some marksmen on the floor, it wouldn't be a big deal. But they don't (if one looks at past performances), so JHS has to become at least a minor threat from 3.

Then again, he already has a college body and skills (based on the Monteverde games I watched), so maybe he'll do most of his damage at the rim. Moreover, a strong defender with size is a handful for opponents.

Honestly, I haven't been this optimistic about an incoming freshman since Zeller. I didn't think TJD would be this good: I wasn't completely sold on Langford; and I wasn't sold at all on Lander. But I'm sold on JHS ... as much as I can be for a guy who hasn't played one second in college yet.

The Pacers for years have only wanted to spend enough money to slide into the playoffs in the last couple of spots. If they missed it, oh well, there is always next year. They got lucky one year and surprised themselves. Then the most likely scenario of bargain shopping kicked in and they sucked again and again.

They have some young talent now that will hit the road as soon as they become better players and are free agents. They will accept an offer from a team that expects to advance in the playoffs. The Pacers have become the Pirates of the NBA. Too cheap to compete.

This cycle will continue until people stop coming to games. I haven't watched a single game out of protest since the McDermott trade and the failure to bring in a single quality free agent that year.

there is a salary cap in the nba, it has nothing to do with being cheap, the pacers have been in purgatory for 15 years, good enough to make the playoffs but not good enough to do anything once they are there. Only chance pacers have to every win a championship is to draft a Giannis type player. high level free agents don't even consider the pacers

Pacers have never been god awful but they have been perpetually mediocre since Reggie and gang passed through (and lost in 6 to Shaq and the Lakers in finals). They just picked their first Top 10 draft pick in forever. But thanks for contributing I guess.

I agree to a point but it wasnt 15 yrs ago. They had David West they signed and gave the Heat all they wanted in EC semis or finals for a couple years. That is just todays NBA Bucks got a gift or they would be in the same place or worse.

It wasn’t a Pacer fan that started that fire

I think the positivity on this post from responses in unfortunately unwarranted based on what has happened with this franchise over the past few years…. I agree that a once in a lifetime draft like the Greek Freak to Old Milwaukee is about the only shot they have to reach the promised land
