A’s last day. Hell of a thing to lose both football and baseball in a city. Kick in the nuts
So they’re going to play in a minor league park in Sacramento until a 30,000 seat stadium is built in Vegas. They think in 28. Has to be enclosed. Can’t play summer baseball in that heat. Bizarre stuffHopefully the people of Oakland can turn the energy of the disappointment and anger of this into positive change that will address the underlying reason their teams left.
But I’m not holding my breath.
Al Davis, Silver and Black, The Snake John Madden, and many more created a once in forever team that really fit the personality of its community. Even the name Oakland Raiders. Then the team and the town went opposite directions on the wrong track.A’s last day. Hell of a thing to lose both football and baseball in a city. Kick in the nuts
30k? Not nearly big enough. The A’s will be a hot ticket when the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and Cardinals come to town.So they’re going to play in a minor league park in Sacramento until a 30,000 seat stadium is built in Vegas. I looked it up. 4 World Series wins since 72Al Davis, Silver and Black, The Snake John Madden, and many more created a once in forever team that really fit the personality of its community. Even the name Oakland Raiders. Then the team and the town went opposite directions on the wrong track.
And the Athletics? Reggie Jackson, Catfish and more.
Think I’ll watch Moneyball this weekend.
That’s what the plans said. Smallest in mlb30k? Not nearly big enough. The A’s will be a hot ticket when the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and Cardinals come to town.
Yeah, Fenway is currently the smallest capacity MLB stadium. They've done all they can to maximize seating in that ballpark -- and I'm sure the Red Sox would love to have somewhere closer to 45-50k.That’s what the plans said. Smallest in mlb

I loathe baseball and football in an enclosed stadium. Just ain’t natural. So they’re going to play in a minor league park in Sacramento until a 30,000 seat stadium is built in Vegas. They think in 28. Has to be enclosed. Can’t play summer baseball in that heat. Bizarre stuff
Can’t sit in that Vegas heatI loathe baseball and football in an enclosed stadium. Just ain’t natural.
I get that. Air condition the seats. Can’t sit in that Vegas heat
For some reason, I don't mind football in an enclosed stadium.....but I'm with you on baseball.I loathe baseball and football in an enclosed stadium. Just ain’t natural.
Well, at least they still have the Warri...
The Bears. The mighty Cal Bears of the Pac...
Of the legendary Atlantic Coast Conference.
They still have them.

Right on the Strip, where the Tropicana used to be
Wild looking stadium
Wow!!!!Right on the Strip, where the Tropicana used to be

I'm trying to decide what I think about that design. It's kind of shocking, at first. A little reminiscent of the Sydney Opera House. But that huge glass front is just spectacular.
If this stadium happens (isn't it still up in the air?), it will certainly be unique.
3 million metro plus it’s one more attraction for tourists now. I guess.Vegas is such a transient town I'm surprised they can actually build legitimate fan bases for all these teams. But the Knights seem to have legit grassroots support, which is cool.

Looks like a perfect place for the White Sox to play. Oakland should chase them.
That's always been one of my questions about Las Vegas pro sports. It is a very transient city -- moreso, I'm sure, than any other major city in the country.
I doubt they'll have a hard time filling seats -- if not from residents, then from tourists. But I'd also imagine that their base of fans would look very different than, say, the Cubs or Red Sox.
The whole city is a dump. What a dump.
The BART blue line has that view as you pass through all of Oakland. Those pics were taken either right before or right after the Coliseum stop. What a dump.
The whole city is a dump.
Pretty much anybody who has been to lots of MLB stadiums will tell you it’s the worst one there is. If not, it’s #2 to Tropicana Field. What a dump.

While Oakland is indeed a dump - I think greed is the likely culprit here. Fisher wanted a new stadium and found a whore of a city that would pay him. That’s why I said that I hope the citizens of Oakland bring all the visceral energy from their teams leaving to bear to address the core reason the teams left.
The teams leaving is a symptom of their problem.

Barcelona is owned by the fans. They hold elections for president.I'd like to see more cities own the teams ala the Packers. Sell shares to the public and have a management team. I'm no longer a baseball fan, but I used to follow the Reds. I always thought they should have gone that route. The Cubs and the Bears also. There was a time 40-50 years ago when it could have worked more broadly. Perhaps not now, given the present selling prices.
So? It’s called competition. Oakland is not a player, their choice. While Oakland is indeed a dump - I think greed is the likely culprit here. Fisher wanted a new stadium and found a whore of a city that would pay him.
Opening day last season, they only opened a few concession stands in the place and still ran out of hot dogs. It was like something out of Major League when Rachel Phelps wanted to lower attendance so she could move the team to Miami. While Oakland is indeed a dump - I think greed is the likely culprit here. Kroenke Sports and Entertainment is doing okay by Denver. It takes big plans and big commitments to keep cities viable and livable. Joe Coors did something similar but much smaller at Coors field.Yup. Like kroenke and the rest
