Multiple posters on this forum have long treated the supposed "weaponization of the IRS" by Obama as a well-documented fact of history and treated it as one of the greatest examples of corruption in modern American government. Consistency demands those posters attack this report with the same ferocity. Unless the the fact that that was Obama and this was Trump is truly what drives their (lack of) outrage.

I’m in complete agreement with you but I’m wondering how you got to to 1:60M? That implies the odds of an individual being audited are 1:8M and I’d think the odds are much higher than that.
My numbers were wrong. It's actually 1:600M.
The odds of Comey's audit was 1/20,000. McCacbe's was 1/30,000.
Probability math of two independent, random events (1/20k and 1/30k) is 20k x 30k = 600M

My larger question remains.....why defend Trump. There are easily other options via DeSantis that give you the same policy positions and political capability with none of this horrid, weighted baggage. Just toss this old orange fart over the side, and move forward.

I agree with that. Most people are scared to death of the IRS. I try very hard to do my taxes correctly but I know that I could make a mistake but an audit still does not scare me because I don't think they are out to get me. Several years ago I got a letter from the IRS saying that I owed approximately $150 because I had made a mistake on one of two forms so I called them and after a 45 minute wait I got to talk to a lady. I told her that I might have made a mistake but I wanted her to point it out to me so we went thru the forms in question line by line and I told her what I had on each line on my return. When we get to the end she tells me that I don't owe anything and I ask her if she could send me a letter stating that fact and she was happy to do it.
On a side note... with all the scams of people filing taxes in other people's name I would highly recommend getting a PIN number from the IRS. I filed my taxes this year and the first time they were rejected because I had forgotten to enter my PIN number.
And we are expecting you to say that there's nothing to it....much ado about nothing.

I read the article, and he may be right that they were flagged. But if they were flagged, that is not a random audit. Supposedly they were generated by the random audit program. The IRS knows there are many unknown unknowns, scams they don't know exist and don't know to look for. So they audit people who have no flags in an effort to uncover those scams.
If this was a random audit, the odds were very much against both being audited. It still may have happened. If this was a flagged audit, it most likely was legit. Since I am in the "refuse to be paranoid" camp, without proof I am willing to say there isn't anything here but it would be OK for the IRS to look into it.
You're more generous than I am...even though I have nothing to back it up I'd be willing to bet a large sum of money that it's political. Of course, we'll never know the exact truth.
They're supposed to turn over the texts to the committee today. They've also hinted that they are recoverable, at least to a certain extent. It will be interesting to see how cooperative they actually are. The SS being so uncooperative is fascinating to me. It's like they've got a dose of Stockholm Syndrome.
