IU SETS NON-CONFERENCE FOOTBALL SCHEDULES THROUGH 2023

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass announced today the full non-conference schedules for the 2016 through 2023 seasons and to allow fans to plan their football weekends well in advance. These future schedules include matchups against “Power Five” schools Wake Forest, Louisville, and Virginia, as well as American Collegiate Conference teams Cincinnati and UConn, which are treated as “Power Five” schools for the purposes of the Big Ten guidelines to schedule at least one such team per year. The future schedules also include an exciting series with Ball State.

These non-conference schedules put Indiana in line with the Big Ten Conference’s commitment to play only schools from the FBS subdivision as well as at least one “Power Five” school per year.

“We know many of our fans plan trips and weddings around our home football games,” said Glass. “We have been working hard to get our non-conference schedule set for the next eight years to help with these plans. While it is challenging to meet our goal of having no more than five true road games given the Big Ten scheduling guidelines and the marketplace, we are pleased that these non-conference games will enable us to generally meet that goal.”

Indiana has added other FBS games by agreeing to future home series with Charlotte and Idaho. Indiana will welcome Idaho to Bloomington on Oct. 2, 2021 and Sept. 17, 2022. Charlotte will visit Memorial Stadium on Sept. 24, 2022 and Sept. 23, 2023.

IU will also host Georgia Southern on Sept. 23, 2017 and UMass on Sept. 9, 2023.

The Hoosiers were originally scheduled to face UMass in 2017, but will now take on Georgia Southern with the UMass game moving to 2023. Indiana’s series against Louisville will begin in 2023 in Lucas Oil Stadium before the Hoosiers travel to Louisville in 2024 and host the Cardinals in 2025 at Memorial Stadium. IU will face in-state foe Ball State at home in 2018 and 2020, with a game at Lucas Oil Stadium in 2019 in Indianapolis.

IU defeated UMass, 45-6, in the only meeting between the two programs at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on Sept. 8, 2012.

The Hoosiers have never faced Charlotte, Georgia Southern or Idaho.
