Posted this on Peegs and got blasted by the Archie sycophants. There is simply not enough talent and effective leadership on this team to overcome bonehead mistakes. This group of players doesn't have the talent to cover up a mistake with athleticism. They have to play smarter than they do and there still is nobody leading on the floor. They have to play for 40 minutes harder and smarter than they do.

This isn't limited to the players. The coaching staff is just as guilty of it as well. I will give them credit for adjusting some things after a crap start to get the lead. The last 2 minutes looked like amateur hour from the coaching staff. A turnover after a timeout because we apparently didn't expect it based on the personnel on the floor is just dumb. Every decent ball handler we had should have been on the the floor. We just needed to take care of the ball and draw fouls. Sure our free throw shooting is abysmal at times but why is a decent ball handling guard that shoots 77% from the line not on the floor. That's a coaching error that put less than talented and leaderless players in a bad situation. Why did we go away from pounding it inside and settle for DG launching I'll advised shots? You mean to tell me Archie can't see that and correct that.

I still think this defense is flawed. Still gives up 3s at alarming rate by over hedging and not being able to recover. MD cooled off in the second half but they still had decent looks. Everybody points to UVA playing the pack-line last the year as the shining example of how it should be played. Everybody seems to forget that the year before that it resulted in the first #1 to #16 loss in NCAA tourney history.

I don't know guys. It just sucks having another defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.

Having a grand on the hoosiers -1 makes it sting a bit more.

After I got over that, I did see a ton of positives from this game. Jerome is gonna play in February and March. Forget about the threes, he can play on the defensive end and is not a Defensive liability anymore. Deron knows what his roll is, and is gonna give us a boost a few more times when Brunk is missing layups and closing out on guys that haven't hit rim on threes all day like a terp. Looks like Al and Brunk are getting better at being the leaders of this team. TJD got in his 1st real foul trouble and we got through it. Coaching is getting much better, having Green come off the bench and playing him at the 2 when Al is in the game, some creative out of time out plays to get easy buckets, finding nice rotations and pulling players when needed for poor play.

That being said everyone shit the bed the last 3 minutes. Coaching most importantly. The whole game we had Green rained in and then you just started letting him play point and run the show? Multiple possessions in a row just let Green light do what he wants. WTF? Then Al chucking up a shot with 20 seconds left on the shot clock? You get a turnover off a timeout and everyone looks like this is the first game they have ever played? No CAWWWWWNfidence to be seen arch.

We win that game we are cemented in the tournament, no instead we are right back in bubble land. I ****ing hate bubble land.

They are nowhere near bubble land right now. They're a projected 8 seed spanning 79 brackets on Bracketmatrix. Bart Torvik gives IU a 93% chance to make the tournament as an 8 seed. That is nowhere near bubble land.

There is a reason peegs is a ghost town. Unless your 100% on board the unicorn train your not welcome. Just read what ken bikoff tweets.

If we win the games we’re supposed to win we’ll be in but big IF. We have like the 2nd toughest B1G schedule left. We’ve blown 2 games we had in the bag and almost lost ones we had in the bag against ND, UCONN, NE, and NW. Sorry for not thinking we’re a lock yet.

We aren't a great team, but when the kids play hard and fight we're a good team. i think if we keep playing hard we can finish up with a 500 Big Ten record and get into the tournament. That's what I'm expecting.
