Its got to be making the NCAA tourney... I cant imagine it not being, right? Cant really have any excuses because its year 3 and CAM has brought in two back to back classes with a pair of All Americans. Hes got enough talent on paper to do at least that if not hes better back at a lower mid major.

“Next Year’s Bar” is a pretty good name for a bar. Drinking for the future.

That's fair. I think it was a valid expectation this year before all the injuries took their toll. I think that stretch where we lost 12 out of 13 is directly attributable to that incredible run of bad luck. It drains your depth and wears like hell on the kids who are actually healthy. Just as importantly, it kills your ability to practice and prepare for games the way you need to be able to. I can't imagine that we will have that kind of situation again.
We also have to shoot the ball better. That is all that stood between us and the tournament this year. So it's on Archie to fill the roster with a couple of shooters and/or to make sure guys already on the roster get better. I'm confident they will.

We lost 5 conference games this year in which our opponent failed to score 70 points. If we had won any one of those we probably would have been in. How many games this year did we lose because we missed open shot after open shot ? Correct that single aspect, and we are a twenty-three win team (or better) this season.

Shooting is probably #1 on the focus list. I would like to see some guys work hard on mechanics. Al, Demezi, Romeo for instance all could easily become better shooters with improved form.

Well I hope and expect Romeo to become a better perimeter shooter. He’s going to have to if he wants a lasting professional career.

But he’ll never take another shot inside Assembly Hall.

Romeo gone. He'll watch a lot of games from an NBA bench next season and beyond.

Meh.
On the surface, id crank it up a tad to round of 32.
But that picture is still meaningless.

Have to look at the entire body of work, inside and out

One more win and a final four in the nit. That is progress!!!

So, you have set your bar . . .

Rob needs a lot of work on his shooting & his ability to get a shot. If he doesn’t he won’t be our pg in 2021

Next year's bar hmm..

We had a pair of all americans? Were they hurt because I don't remember seeing any this year.

No. Apparently it was back to back classes of two All-Americans. So that would be four in total

No, it was TWO back to back classes of two AA's...4 years with 2 per year. 8 in total.

Nevermind that Archie has only been the coach for 2 seasons...lolz.

I assume the poster means Romeo followed by TJD--but didn't write it well.

I don't think Archie's in serious trouble unless he has some kind of Bryce Drew level epic collapse where we finish last in the BIG. Otherwise, I think you go to the end of year 4, look at the program results and trajectory, and ask whether Archie really is projecting a peak where we want the program peaking, and if his floor is tolerable.

Missing the tournament in year 3 and year 4 would suggest that he just isn't going to get it done. But making it in year 3 and missing it in year 4 would pretty much be just as bad. Year 4 is the lynchpin year, not year 3, and certainly not last year, like some people think it ought to be, because, you know, Chris Beard.

I realize that it is one step at a time but IU, a once proud program, now has it's fan base set the bar at "we must make the tournament next year". Whenever I hear this I have to check to see if the I in IU is for Illinois. Take to make the tournament and start making deep runs. Okay, vent over.

Rob needs to find a way to gain muscle and strength without compromising his quickness. Hopefully, the strength and conditioning coaches are working with him on this.

Next year's bar will be the Office Lounge...if the team doesn't improve.

Totally agree. While I think he deserves a pass for this year with injuries and roster, 3 years is enough time to get a team to the NCAA. Not a very high bar to set imo.

Dont forget Chris Mack

It will always be Nicks!

Next year we need to finish higher in the Big Ten and win a game in the NCAA tourney. This will assure Miller's job for another year, at which time it will become to finish even higher in the Big Ten and make a deeper run...Sweet Sixteen. After that, finish even higher yet, in the Big Ten, followed by Elite Eight. After that, finish even higher in the Big Ten (or if not, make the finals of the Big Ten tournament to make up for the regular season) and finish in the Final Four. After that, win the Big Ten regular season and/or win the BT tourney, win the Big Kahuna. It doesn't get any simpler than that. Archie, why are you staring at me like that?

IU needs to improve in year 3 and year 4, and Archie will be just fine. No bar, just steady improvement and roster upgrades making future improvement possible. A really weak and imbalanced roster left behind by Crean. In meed of immediate roster upgrades, that may need to include transfers and turnover.

If he doesn't improve his shooting and defense he'll be watching NBA games from his spot in the G League.
No, his shooting in his freshman year in college was not reflective of his career.
Romeo's defense improved at IU. Romeo will be drafted higher than Carsen Edwards. The NBA is a different game. I could see Edwards get drafted but sent down to the G-League until he finds the right NBA team fit like another sub 6 footer Yogi. I do think Edwards will be drafted now this Summer NBA draft on the strength of his this season's NCAA Tournament scoring outburst.

Ugly numbers in there guys. We sat around and let the people who run the University run this program into the ground. Miller is not a problem, it is his bosses.

Overall that was a pretty good article. I do not agree with what I believe to be a propagandists view that Knight's last several years are the root of IU's troubles, but hey it's the narrative that many want to roll with.
