Merry Christmas everyone. Just for fun what’s your prediction on where we will sit in the pre season polls taking into account our transfer portal additions and subtraction?
I’ll say in the 12-14 range.

I’m not certain we’ll start the season in the top 25

I think it all depends on whether Cig can strengthen the O-line. If it’s understood that IU can have a better O-line, then top 15, if not, then 20-25. I think defensively we can be just as good or better with Fisher, Kamara, and Ponds all returning.

Kamara's back. That's top 15 at worst. I'll go with 12th.
If IU can get two studs on the OL to keep Mendoza off his back and create some holes for the RBs, IU will be ranked 10th.

Heck, with a way too early prediction, IU will be 10-2 next year. Yeah, I know those are some self-imposed limitations. College GameDay will be in Eugene in Week 6 for a battle of the unbeatens. 20,000 Hoosier fans will travel to Eugene just to boo Kirk Herbstreit.

Once again, IU loses a tie-breaker to miss the B1G Championship Game, but still makes the CFP.

Indiana will have THREE All Americans starting on defense in Ponds, Kamara, and Fisher. Throw in a very formidable offense and only a blind man would have them outside of the top 15 in the country.

They should be one of the favorites to win the BIG. That's the bottom line...

I’ll go with #15 - 20. Lots of IU haters out there. Gives us a lot of motivation.
The haters came early, then CCC made the comments on the ND pregame and that increased it. I think we’re going to keep getting called out until we beat a top 25 team. Unfortunately for IU the teams we play next year, that are likely to be in the top 25, will all be road games, unless Wisconsin cracks the top 25.

I do love that we have 2 weeks of prep for the Ducks next year. It helps with preparation, but it also goes a long way when navigating the logistics of cross country travel.

Oh I agree, we should be ahead of both. But we also should know better than to think that 8 months the from now, the pundits will remember anything but ND and OSU games.
Cig still needs a signature win. So I do agree with you. That Iowa game will tell us a lot imho. Most Iowa fans still think they would’ve beaten us last year. I hope we go up there and beat the crap out of them.

Based on IUFB history, we had multiple signature wins this year. Next level will be a T10 win or a major road win

I'll say 22-25. We'll be given credit for this season, but will also take a hit due to our history. Truth be told, that's how I see our program at the moment...but I'm probably just gun-shy. I WANT to believe, but I've done that every year since the Mallory days lol.

We play the schedule we have. Nebraska was in the top 25 of the coaches poll if we want to get technical about it.

I'd guess around #15-17. There isn't much analysis done for these polls. It will probably basically be we were ranked in the top-10 last year, though we couldn't really compete with top-10 teams (it's top-5 teams on the road, but most voters won't make this distinction), but we got Mendoza, kept most of our D (knock on wood), and hopefully got some decent OL (fingers crossed).

I'm not worried about beating a top-25 team. The next steps are competing with top-10 teams and winning a tougher road game like Iowa. Also leveling up our recruiting next year now that this staff has had some time to build relationships and showcase New Indiana.

This is typical in sports (or anything) for a team pushing to be good -- it takes time to break through. We've had one year -- ONE YEAR! of this staff that started with bad roster/program, and we're somehow in the mix with top-15 teams with 2.5-5x our NIL and years of top recruiting classes in their rosters. Amazing progress made in such a short amount of time.

And the progress seems to be continuing -- we beat out top teams for a top QB and just matched late 2nd round/3rd round NFL money to keep a defensive star. There are no guarantees next year, CFB is brutally competitive, but this is amazing work from IUFB and IU/donors.

22-27 is my guess. IU lost a lot of offensive production and two key OL starters.
I didn’t see where IU found two OL starters in the portal.
Hemby and Mendoza moved the transfer portal ranking from 41 to 25.
Scoring 40 points a game early will vault IU into the top 15 in short order.
