So the question is if Woodson can somehow go like 11-9 in conference and barely get into the tourney does Quinn and his big pocket donors bring him back for another year? I say 100% they do without doubt. Quinn isnt going to fire his buddy as long as he can make the tourney and the simons and cooks will probably write even bigger checks next year to buy a team imo.

Idk Hornsby. Quinn’s Chairman term is up next year. He got his buddy a big payday already back in ‘21. Not sure Cook/Simon are going to be thrilled with the results after they boosted NIL. Woody has two years left on his contract after this year, if they keep him they sort of need to extend him — how do you explain to ‘25 and ‘26 recruits the coach’s contract doesn’t go through the period the player would be at IU? You can’t. Tough to see Woody getting extended.

I’m not sure what happens, but I doubt he is 100% safe.

I hope you are right but 6 million to the cooks and simons is like 5 bucks to you and me. I think as long as the money buys them access to the coach I doubt they care all that much. If they did they would have never bailed Woodson out for this season. They would have helped pay to get rid of him. The writing was already on the wall about his coaching.

I thought Cav said they were done giving him money.

What access? They get to go over his house and have dinner with him at Uptown? Did they not have access to him in prior years when they only gave $4M in NIL? Is Woody like the coolest person to hang out with and that outweighs bad results? I’d think they would also have access to the next coach.

I was surprised they re-upped with him after last year and boosted the NIL. They tried that strategy and it’s off to a bad start. If more NIL doesn’t work, not sure they try it again with him.

But, I’m just guessing. With two years left on his deal it’s either fire or extend.

Kansas has big money players but they have a guy who can coach. Just throwing money at players doesnt get you a good team. You actually have to coach them into a team. I mean I dont know they clearly are not very good judges of basketball if they thought giving woodson more money would somehow fix his coaching.

why in the world would they pay big money for access to Woodson

there are many far better ways to throw away cash
You would certainly think so but maybe they want to sit around drinking wine with him and here him tell stories from 40 years ago.

I agree. I would have fired Woody last year. All I’m saying is Cook/Simon did try something new (more NIL), and while that probably wasn’t the right move, I’m not sure they are extremely illogical and will keep giving him more and more NIL with no results.

I’d think they could get that for less than $6M.

IMO they wanted to do all they could for Woody to succeed. Woody is extremely lucky to have the right friends.
But like I said if they knew anything about basketball they would have been able to see simply buying a team is not going to fix his coaching issues. In fact it might make it worse because you got guys making a million a year with big heads probably.

I can't tell you what will happen, but you don't become rich by continually squandering $5.

Yea, I agree they don’t know much, but I’m not sure they have no limits and support Woody no matter what. They must have a limit at some point.

11-9, win a game in the tournament and win a game in the Dance... that's a nightmare waiting to happen.

Which recruits? He is only drawing 1yr transfer players now. (Sisley is a Big exception)

Many transfer players have multiple years of eligibility. The program will want many of them to stay. Most players would like a destination they can stick with — similar to high school recruits.

Next year if Woody is around he has to try with the ‘26 high school class. Those kids will see a coach with one year on his deal once they arrive. Not good.
