Next year’s Indiana?

The only team in the BIG that could possibly duplicate IU of this year are the puKES. And that is certainly not going to happen.
Illinois and Minny were not even close to how bad IU has been prior to this year.

HARD disagree.

2023 IU greatly underachieved. But they lost a LOT of winnable close games that went literally to the wire (PSU, MSU, Louisville, Purdue, Illinois) and only won 2 (Akron & Wisconsin).

That’s nothing like the whippings PU took this year.

I agree that the Illinois comparison is off. I can see the Minnesota comparison, even if they won more of those “to the wire games” in ‘24 that IU lost in ‘23.

I also think Nebraska & UCLA have potential (without knowing their schedules next year).

^^^THIS !! ^^^

Those teams they mention are all teams that had success. IU was absolute bottom of the barrel in 2023. You have to find a team that was terrible and 1 win or less in conference. Purdue would certainly fit that criteria, although I think they will struggle a bunch. Any talent they had in spots have bailed. Their best player was Max Klare and he’s going to OSU.

We now have articles predicting next year’s surprise teams named in honor of us. Two of them are Illinois and Minnesota.

Those would hardly be what I'd call "surprise Teams" (and I know You didn't write it)... I actually expect those teams to do well...

If the guy who wrote that can project five 2024 3&8 teams that are picked to finish next to last in their conference in 2025 and end up being correct about their breakout season, then I'll be impressed with his article... 😉😎🍺

2023 is one of the biggest underachieving years I've seen Indiana have. They should've beaten quite a few Big Ten teams coming down the stretch.

Sorsby played well enough and Rod Carey improved the oline. There was just an overall lack of coaching discipline in the Allen regime and it showed up in close games.

I agree, and in spirit of “biggest surprise and most talked about team,” then I can’t see anyone out there as a contender. It was perhaps a once in a generation occurrence. The only analogy I can point to is Bill Snyder taking K State to near the top of the B12 in the late 80’s. Yep, once in a generation.

His teams were extremely undisciplined. Made crucial errors at crucial times. It showed up in glaring fashion in the Gator Bowl losing a 2 score lead in the last 5 mins.
