Newkirk looks to make the simple play

This is exactly what will help him. He was forced to do way too much offensively last year.
Simple play. Be physical. Use his quickness and take care of the ball. Hit the open jumper, and play defense.
Newkirk can have a great year. I don't think we've seen his best side yet.

He was the least productive guard per minute in conference play last year. 11.5 unadjusted PER, 10.7 adjusted. That's average walk on level production.
He's had 3 years of very low production for two different schools. I think Arch would need to be a miracle worker to get him to be competent. He seems best suited as a defensive specialist coming off the bench. He just doesn't seem to have the skills to play at this level.
We'll see, but I'm hoping someone (more productive) takes his minutes. If Newkirk is the starting PG, we have a PG issue.
