Newest IUFB Portal Addition

Not me. Their competition will have the same issue. It will even out.

We were a mid major, at best,in football. I feel OK for us. We will lose out on recruits and players too. Example, what Michigan and Texas are able to pay freshman QBs.

Daley played three seasons for Kent State. He doesn't owe them anything. He's trying to better himself, and his NFL chances.

We were never a mid major. Are you aware of the TV money we're raking in.

All of this will even out as We move on. There are kids Who are good High School Football Players Who come out of High School and end up at mid schools because They were overlooked or They haven't finished developing. Sometimes They get to College and just improve themselves off the charts. There are other guys Who come out of High School overrated and over recruited, Who have reached their peak and won't improve and wash out of larger programs. There is room for movement in both directions.

I meant in abiity to attract recruits, pre NIL

And the TV money hasn't paid a dime in revenue share yet. Or bought one recruit. Helped with facilities. But until recently we behaved like a mid. Big upgrades in recent years though.

I used to feel worse for mid majors. Not anymore. Same playing field. They can hit up their multimillionaires too. And their comp isn't as tough.

I don't see how this evens out. Unless the powers that be come up with some sort of structure, this is only going to escalate until it eventually implodes.

When I say even out. I'm referring to movement up the ladder by players from non power conferences, and movement down by Players Who find that They are over their heads at power schools. The NIL Money will never even out. Unless there are unusual circumstances involved, Ball State will never have the NIL resources We have.

I saw an interview with a mid-major coach where he said a P4 program should have to pay a mid-major when they take one of their players. I actually like this idea.

Huh? Makes no sense to me. The player goes into the portal so he is shopping his talents. Why should the school that he ends up at, pay the mid major?

Should, let's say, OSU pay IU if one of the players goes into the portal and is picked up by OSU?

One way this could work is if the players were under real contracts (they aren't, but hypothetically), the school they move to would have to pay a buyout of the player's existing contract with the midmajor. Or, to go a step further, even have a soccer-like transfer fee in the contracts, which put simply is a really big buyout.

This would be nice in that the midmajor that identified and developed a player would get paid for their efforts.

However, this will never happen, the P4 would never agree to it, but it would be an interesting solution.

Yeah but this has been college sports for a long time. Ohio State has always had vastly more resources for players than IU had and IU had vastly more than Ball State had.

Rules around the portal and having multi-year player contracts (with buy-out agreements) will help curb a good chunk of the chaotic trend.

Look at this naia school! Facilities are ridiculous for a school like that.

Stephen Daley is an active productive get for the Indiana DL. A Mirror image of Kamara?
I watched a bit of his film. I wouldn’t say he’s anywhere close to Kamara. Feels more like a depth piece. However, I’ll trust the staff since the guy grew up within an hour of JMU’s campus and they previously recruited him. It’s hard to believe that there were guys like West and Dailey on a program that bad.
Against Tennessee last year, Kent State lost 71-0 (and it was actually 30-0 at the end of the 1st quarter). Against top competition, none of the edge rushers got much of any pressure. Maybe with better pieces around him, he’ll produce.

It's no different than European soccer where the big clubs buy players from the youth academies or first teams of smaller clubs. They reinvest that money in developing young players and it feeds the beast. In some cases, those teams are able to level up with that money...Brighton, Southampton (historically), and the Tampa Bay Rays (to use an American comparison).

I get that logic but when you are talking about 11 men on your side of the field, only a couple good players isn't near enough.

Nobody expected Kamara to dominate like he did last year coming from JMU, but he was 2nd team in the Sun Belt the season before transferring. CJ West was 3rd team in the MAC before transferring and is going to get drafted. I'm not saying Daley is going to replicate the jump that either of those 2 made, but there's no reason to think he's not ready to be a starter in the B10. The massive jumps in production that so many players took after transferring to IU last season leaves me feeling that Daley has a lot more upside than he has shown so far and I expect to see him shine at IU this fall.
