Ncaa Tournament thread:

Had they not screwed WVU and put UNC in instead, we'd be be a week behind.

Might have changed our minds and gone with McCollum after last night

This NM/Marquette game is really good. Two evenly matched teams going at it. The committee got this 10/7 matchup right

Risk.

.945 winning percentage in last nine seasons.

Apparently they play a different sport in D2. Or whatever BS people are selling…
Earlier in the week when we were hearing it might be DeVries or McCollum and it seemed like it was fairly evenly split on who was the favorite here. But the knock on McCollum was that he’d only been Division 1 this year and never at a P5. I liked both of them quite a bit.

I’m gonna stay engaged with this endlessly floundering program because Devries seems legit. Breath of fresh air. He could get something going.

Would I have been more excited with McCollum or Beard? Yes. Flat-out. No doubt.

Is there a chance either one of those two guys goes on and becomes a true superstar coach somewhere? Oh, there most definitely is. And we all know it.

Does Devries have that similar ceiling with IU’s resources? Sure? Signs kinda point to yes. But I think every damn fan will be quietly watching the careers of the other two, wondering what might have been… just the way it is. Hopefully Devries makes us forget all about it.

Hopefully. I guess that’s the one quality we have in spades.

I think what helped play into this is that the DeVries interest was kept extremely quiet until hours (?) before it became apparent he would be our HC.

Because he wasn’t an immediate name on the board we didn’t have days/weeks to check into what he has to offer like we did the others that were (I certainly looked a lot at McCollum, already familiar with Beard).

Now that I’ve looked into CDV I really like him and see why Dolson selected him. Looking forward to seeing the new coach and team on the floor.

Yeah, well. You know full well that if Beard or McCollum came here and struggled at all, even for just a stretch of games in one season, while DeVries began tearing it up at WVU or some other blue blood he might've jumped to instead, that these same whiny bitches on this forum would be saying we should've gone with CDD. We've all seen this tired routine play out, over and over. We have a coach. He's damn good. We have a ton of resources to enable a solid coach to succeed. We can't hire 3 or 4 coaches simultaneously. And, shocker, there's more than one great coach in college basketball. You pick one, recognize that you got a good one, and you wait until next year to watch it play out. All the hand-wringing now is a waste of effort.

Make no mistake, I'm making a mental note of the whiniest of the bunch the past few days, and I'll be putting them on full blast when we start winning and they're back on the wagon acting like they never left.
