It’s not a whiff, DeVries is a very good coach, he’s not an Archie or Woodson for sure, but perhaps McCollum might be better. Who knows? Time will tell, but IU did not hire a bad coach. WVU fans are livid because they know they lost a good one.
Very possible IMO but just as likely Dolson went with “safe” vs taking a risk.

I think CDD has a higher floor but BM has a potentially higher ceiling. That said, I’m just feeling good that IU has hired a good up and coming coach with plenty of experience.

The plus to me (who very much hoped for McCollum) on DeVries is he does have a lot of D1 experience as an assistant under a couple of very good coaches. Then on his own has showed a lot of ability as head man.
He can run a program I'm betting. We're good!
But, the McCollum detractors thinking dominating in DII year after year isn't also 'running a program'... Well, I just don't know what to say to that.

I like our HC. I like CBM, too.
He definatelty was my #1 pick. He will produce Tony Bennett and Bo Ryan type regular seasons for years to come. Hopefully he kills it in March as well.. He IS a prodigy.
I agree. BM was and still is who I would've gone all in on. Far from a gamble as one poster stated, considering BM has almost 3 times as much HC experience than CDD.
The one thing that goes for CDD is that he turned Drake around after 50 years of garbage. Then made WV competitive in the Big 12 after just one season. The jury is certainly still out and maybe he shines but BM seemed like the more secure of the 2 options.
These WVU guys, who travelled with the team throughout the season, think you're an idiot.
Kansas vs. Arkansas was a tough one though. Nobody to like...
Maybe he is but who knows. Bo Ryan could keep guys in a system for five years and develop team. McCullom will have to compete with the big boys in the portal each year if he gets a P5 job. One day we will see what he can do at a higher level but its highly unlikely he will be able to keep most of his team around for four or five years like Ryan did.
