the v.p. of d1 athletics said the ncaa has sent out notices of allegations to the schools involved in the fbi investigation and that penalties are coming "in due time and fairly quickly". he said the ncaa had to wait until the fbi finished prosecuting their cases, which they now have. mike brey, who is president of the nabc board of directors, publicly questioned why athletic directors and university presidents have failed to "drop the hammer" on the likes of arizona, kansas, nc state, and louisville, etc. to me, fairly quickly would mean before the start of the basketball season. if they do, it will be interesting to see which universities decide to fight the ncaa

Bye Bye Self
I have not followed this much, is kentucky not implicated? Regardless, the next five years could be interesting. self at kansas possibly out. duke and unc coaches around 70 years old. could inure to our benefit. a leveling out of the other blue blood programs.

Assuming we are looking at the following:

Will Wade - LSU
Sean Miller - Arizona
Bruce Pearl - Auburn (isn’t Chuck Person going to prison?)
Andy Enfield - USC - (Tony Bland?)

And I am forgetting the name of the Oklahoma St assitant caught up in this. Would that affect Brad Underwood at Illinois??

Blah Blah Blah....nothing will happen.

Guys like Gassnola, Dawkins have little to no credibility. Its pretty much hearsay without direct evidence like bank deposits or other financial records, or one of these ex-players or a family member who were on the take cooperating - none of which the NCAA has any real power to make materialize. Louisville fired Pitino who is now suing them for the remainder of his contract $40 million. Kansas and Arizona will be very cautious about before doing the same

I’m guessing the NCAA got the stuff the defense attorneys were able to keep out of the trials. And the NCAA doesn’t have to prove a case in court. Wouldn’t totally surprise me if they all get slaps on the wrist but this seems different. Too much press. Too many schools at once. Fan cynicism running high. Pro leagues go to amazing lengths to protect or pretend to protect some kind of fair-play integrity in their sports. NCAA might be feeling the same pressure. Or the NCAA has been infiltrated by mid-major grads. Whatever works!

hearsay? lol. you are obvious not following the fbi investigation and as such, should refrain from making comments about it

wade paid $300,000 to naz reid to play a single season at lsu. he dropped out of school the minute the season ended. javonte smart was similarly paid. wade also offered cash to a 7 footer out of montverde academy. think trendon watford didn't get paid? why do you think miller stopped recruiting him in april? i got ganged up on for besmirching the sacred watford name for suggesting trendon had his hand out. don't be so naive, people

List of schools in investigation according to SI (Feb 2018)
Duke - North Carolina - Texas - Kentucky - Michigan State - USC - Alabama - North Carolina State - Seton Hall - LSU - Maryland - Washington - South Carolina - Louisville - Utah - Xavier - Wichita State - Clemson - Kansas - Creighton - Notre Dame - Vanderbilt - Virginia - Iowa State
Reads like a who's who of recent success. Follow the money. 8 of last 10 champs on the list.

Yeah and that could be huge. If the NCAA threshold is "preponderance of the evidence" i.e. "more likely true than not true" they could well have enough to had out some serious consequences.

But I'll be surprised if they do.

You get what you pay for!

The NCAA is getting tough! LoL

Jayhawks' De Sousa wins appeal, eligible to play

The NCAA blew it. Back when Knight was canned the NCAA should have paid him big bucks to police those schools. As much as he hated the cheating maybe he could have put an end to this nonsense. These schools won’t get hit hard. Does anybody really think Duke, Kansas, or UNC will get more than a slap on the wrist?

They will have to vacate a few wins and a scholorship worst case. With 7 one and dones Duke will be just fine with 12 grants.

An assistant has claimed Wade told him he paid Reid. Is that proof?
If that claim is made under oath then it is admissible as an admission against interest and therefore would be evidence that a crime has been committed.

Could it be sufficient to convict Wade of a crime? Maybe. If the trier of fact - typically a jury - decides they believe the assistant, then it could be "proof" sufficient to convict.

Only two BIG teams on there, so if the ncaa punishes both of them, does IU make the dance next year?

The NCAA is caught between a rock and a hard place on this issue. Many of these schools have large alumni bases and followings. This is what drives TV viewership particularly among casual fans. If these Schools receive huge penalties (Take away Scholarships down to 8, suspension of Program for one year even the death penalty in extreme circumstances), they run the risk of killing the Golden Goose of TV Revenue. If they pull a Dean Wormer and put these programs on double secret probation (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) it will be business as usual for these schools to continue the activity. It will also give the green light to all schools to violate the Rules. If we are a mediocre Program, and there aren't significant risks and consequences for cheating, why don't we cheat, and hope to get several years of money and fame. Once the building burns down and we are caught, simply point to how the NCAA has handled these cases in the past and ask for the same minimal penalties.

Nothing at all is going to happen to Kansas and Sean Miller is recruiting like he plans to stay a long time is Tucson. I would be beyond shocked if Miller is not coaching Arizona next year.
Maybe both Miller brothers will be looking for new jobs at the same time...after next season

Yes really. At worst, De Sousa was aware that his guardian was accepting money and powerless to do anything about it.

How many seasons should he be suspended for? 2? 3?

Get serious.

So with Cliff Alexander, Andrew Wiggens, De Sousa all having questions in the past about money exchanges and even Zion you figure theres nothing to see? What about Arizona, UNC, DUKE, UK, LSU, NC State, Louisville.....nothing to see either?

You clearly have a fringe understand of the De Sousa situation at best and likely no idea what you’re talking about as it pertains to Wiggins* and Alexander.

If the NCAA sees fit to punish Kansas in some form, that’s fine by me. I’m not ok with De Sousa (who is a talented player and by all accounts a great team mate) wasting away in street clothes for two years because all the adults in his life failed him.

But I can see how it’s easy to be as vindictive as yourself when viewed through the lens of simply a player for a rival team who deserves whatever the hell comes his way.

So, maybe the lesson is: Winners cheat and cheaters win? And maybe the old baseball saying is right: If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'.

I think the if you aren't cheating you aren't trying is more about stealing signs on the field during the game and yes I say all is fair on things like that
