NCAA final

It’s not material. It’s truth. The truth doesn’t change. And it definitely doesn’t care if people accept it or not.
I'm not defending CTC's results at IU. I think he was here several yrs longer than he should have been. We have Cody's commitment and then the surprise yr of Yogi's sr year to thank for that. If Cody didn't commit, CTC might not have made it past yr 4. And Yogi bought CTC one extra year at the end of his IU tenure.

But to think CTC and this 'Crean cult" you keep mentioning is the primary reason the IU program has slipped is ludicrous. The head coaches that preceded and followed CTC did much more damage to this program that CTC ever did.

Major legacy game for Self tonight. He has the better team, he is the better coach. A win tonight and he has two titles and is the most decorated Active CBB Coach now that K and Roy have hung it up. Assuming he gets a 3rd before he hangs it up ( he’s still relatively young) he joins K, Rupp, Wooden, Knight, Roy and Calhoun among the all time greats with 3+, and his regular season success is arguably more impressive than all those guys.

Given self is a big time cheater none of it is impressive to me. I am pretty sure if IU was paying top 20 talent year in and out we probably could have won another title or two by now.

I'm just going to enjoy the Kentucky meltdown surrounding this game-2 teams they beat by a combine 50 something points playing for the title. And Purdue to a lesser degree-they still can't believe the greatest Boiler team ever is not playing tonight. Go Peacocks!

North Carolina is hot. If they stay hot, they obviously have a good chance tonight.

But with Bacot likely effected by the ankle injury...and with Kansas being probably the best defensive team they'll have played in the tournament...I'll be surprised if UNC wins.

Baylor had been decimated with injuries, so their lofty D rating was misleading. UCLA allowed Love to go off late in their game, but they had UNC on the ropes in a pretty ugly, low scoring game. And Duke isn't a very good defensive team.

I don't think Kansas perimeter defenders will allow Davis and Love to go off tonight. And the Bacot/McCormack matchup, which would have needed to favor Bacot I think...might not any more with his ankle injury???

If the game is relatively close though late. You can't discount Davis and Love's ability to create and make big shots.

Should be a good one. Hope I can stay awake.

IU's problem really was bringing Calvin Samscum. Look how far he set us back in the 2 yrs he was here. What was frustrating for me was he didn't have to cheat in any way. IU sells itself. He can coach really well but he is corrupted.

He was the right type of in game coach we needed just not the right type of person. Obviously Belein would have been a great hire but what can you do now. The stuff Sampson did can fly at Kansas or LSU no problem just not at IU. It all depends on the school Kansas will put up with most all shady stuff which is obvious.

Well said. He wasn't the right type person. I made a comment to some folks about how Kansas just lets Self keep doing what he is doing. They wouldn't fire him. They probably think IU is a bunch of suckers because we self reported.

Is “Calvin” supposed to be part of the joke ?

It's been three years. Its kansas he is untouchable. I was in kansas last weekend for my kids soccer tourney they think self is a god. They think he is like bob knight before he was fired. Except Kansas wont fire him imo. If he wins monday I want to puke.
He won't be winning if Love is on and Bacot getting 20 and 20

TBS coverage is ass. Bring back CBS
Just watch it online, CBS sports. It's free, can't believe I signed up for free trials in the past just to watch it on TV. My wife hates it, and this you don't have to cancel, and she doesn't have a complaint, headphones. and win, win

You got a link? Or did you write that?
It doesn't really matter cause UNC play basketball and KU and their bought program and shell game weave crap is going down. You can see it in their faces

So far so good. Guys like self don't deserve a title imo.
They are gonna get blown out, believe me, I'm no UNC fan, but I saw it last week that the Love kid would not let them lose, that I respect. I eye test and my eyes aren't that good anymore, but this was obvious. It's also not hard to dislike KU's panty hose, to put it this way, I would love Kopp to pursue his career in Kansas. Watching him play is like remembering a taste of cat food from 30 years ago while snowed in

Sad state of affairs a known cheater cutting down the nets. Maybe it will be vacated but I doubt it. Kansas stood tall and stuck with their cheater . Maybe one day they will be judged by a higher power. Who know win at all costs is sad.

Phony Class U vs Dollar Bill.
Crime pays.

bluest of the blue bloods.
By the end of the game, Bacott and Love both had serious ankle injuries, Manek had been clobbered in the face twice, Johnson apparently got hit in the torso causing him to puke and Davis also got hit in the head in the first half causing him to be examined by a referee.

Even if most of them were able to stay in the game, that's still lot of wear and tear to recover from, and UNC just couldn't do it. The physical play clearly affected UNC's shooting and mobility in the second half. Kansas ground them down ... just barely.

yep, as good as UNC looked going into halftime, within the first 90 seconds of the second half, you could see they were in big trouble. Manek had to have suffered a concussion from that first pop to the head. That was painful to watch on TV.

Physicality had a huge effect on the game. In the first half, UNC was very physical bumping guys off their lines going to the basket. Which caused Kansas to miss A LOT of bunnies. Wilson and Braun especially.

2nd half...it was obviously a point of emphasis for Kansas. As they were the ones taking the physicality to UNC. Countless plays in the paint in the 2nd half where the Kansas offensive guy would bump/plow into the defender, clear them out, and finish the play or get fouled.

If they had done that all game, they'd have blown UNC out badly. Great adjustment by Kansas.

That game should be on loop for our guys like X, Race, TJD, Bates,Jordan, JHS, Trey...if our guys can learn to finish how Kansas did in the 2nd half...controlled and physical...its hard to tell how much better we'd be.

It wasn’t just the physical nature of KU but they also significantly upped the pace of play. UNC couldn’t consistently play that fast, and it really caught them in the 2nd half. Self may not follow the rules, but he can coach.

They played fairly fast in the 1st half, for the most part. They just weren't finishing at the rim. Wilson had 4 misses, Braun had 2-3, Ajbaji had a couple, McCormack had a few...and basically all of them were because they flew at the basket and left their feet without trying to initiate any contact, or control themselves in any way.

It was striking in the 2nd half how pointed they were to go through UNC's chests on basically every single attempt near the basket.

They might have won that game by 40 if they had played that way the whole game.

No doubt, but they walked it up more than a few times in The first half, especially after they built their early lead, and that allowed UNC to catch their breath and get back into it. KU stepped on the gas in the second half and really pushed the pace, and UNC didn’t have the juice to go with them.

Sadly….. in the B1G…. All the guys mentioned above would be on the pines with 5 fouls each for playing like Kansas did. That’s how horrible the B1G officiating is!!!!

Definitely. Defense always plays a role in the pace too...Kansas defense in the 2nd half was scary good, and starting your offense off rebounds and steals inherently speeds you up. As another poster posted, 30 seconds into the 2nd half, you could see that UNC was going to struggle. Harris even got in Davis face after that first lob dunk to McCormack. It was obvious Self laid into them at halftime, and challenged their manhood or something...whatever he/they did, it sure worked!

Could be. Though there's been a pretty established track record for them to allow teams like MSU and Purdue to essentially play football.

I'm talking more about initiating contact at the rim on offense though. Our guys played nearly every game this year like Kansas played in the first half. We were aggressive getting to the basket most games, but any challenge or level of contact, and more often than not we missed the good looks we had earned with our aggressiveness. TJD and Race were especially bad at this, all year long.

If those guys learn to jump stop with two feet, while delivering a shoulder, then exploding up at the rim...instead of sweeping across the lane and shooting floating hooks, scoop layups, etc... Well, they and we would be A LOT better.

Agreed, but it also seemed that we have also struggled with layups when there is no contact, TJD especially. It almost seemed like he would anticipate contact, and when it wasn’t there the shot would be wild.

North Carolina fans are about to find out making it to the championship game doesn't mean diddly-squat if you don't win it. All it really means is a small line item on your coach's next job resume and his curriculum vitae for life.

I'm afraid with TJD, if he hasn't figured it out by now, he never will. That said, I would love to see the chance of being proven wrong. He's never been a good finisher around the basket. He misses a lot of opportunities for three point plays, both underneath the basket AND at the foul line. A lot of the non-dunk stuff he throws up doesn't stand a chance of going after just the slightest hint of provocation.

There's nearly always contact of some sort. Not necessarily while they're releasing, but earlier on in the body. That's why you have to be controlled and physical yourself. In major college basketball, you're going to get bumped. Like Wilson and Braun were in the first half last night. It can, and does, throw even point blank layups off if you're not anticipating it. Nearly ALL the seemingly wide open layups TJD and Race missed, were preceded by some sort of body bump, knee to their thighs, etc... They "allowed" the other teams to push them like that, bump them like that, and it threw them off. Even the slightest shift in focus and approach, for those 2 guys, changes a handful of those missed layups to makes and/or drawn fouls, every game. Same for our guards that are active going to the basket like X and Trey.

I agree, I was referring to contact on the shot (ie arm).

You over state and harp on the weave that literally had no bearing in this game. I’m not sure you know what your are seeing. KU was getting every shot they wanted. While UNC was just throwing shots up. The problem with UNC is they have to play like that. If (KU)they hit shots at even a mediocre clip in the first half this game would’ve been over with 6 min to go in the first half. Plus KU plays defense. They still won missing a ton of shots they normally hit. You let the disdain for Self cloud your vision.

Disagree. I think any FF appearance is meaningful. But I also think BT regular season championships matter.

That's not to say I don't revel in their loss. But also hate that Kansas won.

The last play of the game was instructive.

On that play with four seconds left, Manek actually fell down trying to get open on the far side of the court. That was one less guy to guard and Kansas double/triple teamed all over Davis who almost turned it over. And, then, gimpy-ankled Love shot a three pointer that had no chance and just barely nicked the left edge of the rim.

Those things occurred on perhaps the most important play of the game and can all be attributed to injuries and fatigue. This shows that, to play against such teams, IU needs a topnotch strength coach.

I understand the Final Four 'trophy" is good for the program, but not for long in the minds of others not connected. I look back at our runner-up finish to Maryland as a major "bummer, Man" I'd rather not think about. I find no moral victory in consolation of a National Championship Game lost. Only victory matters in head-butt confrontations of two.

What if IU never wins another title?

KU is a number 1 seed almost every single year. They win their conference at a crazy clip. And that was #2 for Self and #4 for the school.

they went 30 years between titles, and then almost 15 till the next one (1988, 2008, 2022).

and they have won the most games of any school.

it’s REALLY hard to win it all. IU could win BT titles in 10 of the next 20 years, and still not hang another banner. We were spoiled.
