It looks like Nadler is using his position as chair of the Juduciary Committee to rake in cash for the DNC...and maybe a little for himself as well.
According to the Free Beacon, Nadler will be headlining a gathering of The Democracy Alliance, a major progressive dark money group, that will be closed to the media and public but where he will discuss what his committee is going to do in the wake of the Mueller investigation winding down.

Lol. Selling public governmental information to selected consumers. I guess the Democrats are entrepreneurs after all.

Now list all closed door fundraisers politicians from both parties have done in the last 30 days. This is as common as a cloudy day.

I guess if the DNC doesn’t have the Hillary Campaign to borrow from anymore.... you know, I’d say that is collusion no? Why isn’t the Dems at all upset with a rigged Primary? I mean , wow.

Were donors not duped into contributing to a fake process? Wow

The standard for determining if an action is improper is not only its actual impropriety but giving the appearance of it. The degree to which this is improper is difficult to overstate. Nadler is meeting with a group of major Democrat donors who hate Trump, and who the Democrats need enthusiastically supporting them in 2020, to discuss the most important thing Nadler will ever do. Will Nadler sell the use of his committee's subpoena power for contributions? Will he put up for grabs actions his committee could take? We don't know and we never will. But, given the nature of the speaker, we can certainly speculate.

It’s hard to draw lines between political showmanship and selling access to government officials, but I think Nadler crossed the line here.

"Given the events of the last few days, we added a special discussion, After the Mueller Report: What's Next?" says a flyer distributed with programming updates for the donor retreat.
If this event is to be considered routine, it then becomes an admission that the Dems really see their governmental duty as harassment.

I remember when Kevin McCarthy’s boneheaded comment about congressional Benghazi hearings being about Hillary’s campaign. That was wrong too.

At a minimum we know someone like Nadler gets invited to talk to real people for only one reason: he is temporarily useful to them. I guarantee you, Nadler wasn't a major speaker at their meeting. Nor the year before. I can nearly guarantee you that he won't be back next year. From that it isn't hard to see what is going on here.

Wonder where this fits in their socialistic society? It’s not a problem. When they install socialism they’ll just take the money. Lol.

Here is a link quoting the Free Bacon story.

Apparently Nadler will be speaking to donors at a meeting which was already planned. Where the money raised by these donors is going is a matter of pure speculation along with just what Nadler will be presenting.

The link which describes the donors as hating Trump has some rather hateful language of its own directed at Nadler.

Our entire political system runs on special interest money, mostly from wealthy businesses and individuals. As a result, every elected member of government routinely does exactly what Nadler is doing. But Nadler has become a Person of Interest to the Trumpbots, so everything he does is suspicious, even if it isn’t suspicious at all. Hence stupid threads like this one.

Absolutely spot on. Now, if we want to discuss how to remove money from politics, that’s a discussion worth having. Let’s start with Citizens United and go from there.

This is like the silly thread about the admissions scandal. Both have little to do with parties and everything to do with the power of being wealthy.

If this is a stupid thread it’s because it’s about Democrat (or is it “Democratic”?) Dumbassary. The Democrats have gone insane after Mueller announced no further indictments.

So funny that you think it’s over, even after Mueller team says the report from Barr mischaracterized the findings. Get used to it. GOP has investigated nonsense for years. And now you want to be upset that the Dems actually want to get to the bottom of the shadiest enterprise ever in politics? Get real and get used to it. Won’t be over until long after he has left office. I’d be willing to be the entire family is going to rue the day Daddy gave up his cushy little job and opened up the entire family to intense scrutinization.

I'm actually amazed (though I shouldn't be) that you would start this particular thread with what passes for a straight face... It's like you have completely erased from your consciousness the past few years of GOP control and names like NUNES,MCCONNELL and of course TRUMP. It's like you exist in a vacuum...

"In addition to the $14,638 he spent on Celtics tickets in 2017, Nunes was the most lavish campaign finance spender in Las Vegas, paying $42,741 for “catering, site rentals, hotels, and meals” since 2013, the report said. His PAC also spent almost $15,000 on California winery tours. These too were listed as campaign fundraising efforts. The House Ethics Committee outlaws the personal use of PAC finances.

Confronted by McClatchy about his PAC’s spending habits, Nunes said, “I wish I could help you.”

Money is like water....it will always find its way in. You can't limit it, better to just put it all above board and require the disclosures. Modern day campaigns are built upon small $$ internet donors anyway.

Trump's biggest campaign position was that all politicians were corrupt and he gave money to all of them over the years, to do his bidding (which in his line of business was very true). Was likely one of his largest appeals, running against both parties. He just managed to take over one.

I agree with you...but the fact is he has existed and made a fortune in New York for Decades. To do that, you gotta own the Party in charge. He owned them in New York. The party's have the same interest .....money.

That was actually one of the reasons I didn’t want him as the nominee. No one really knew which side of the fence he was going to land on. I sure didn’t. I still think he could switch direction in mid-stream but at this point, the beds have been made..... but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Democratic Party didn’t smarten up and start playing ball with him because I think he would gladly gravitate closer to center/left if it suited him....

He would like to be seen as the President without a Party that did business with both sides after showing the politicians interest are really the same.

Hey @IUJIM I didn't insult anyone. I just said this thread is dumb, which it is, for all the reasons people have already pointed out. If you're going to be a super secret mod, don't use your powers just to pick on people you disagree with. Thanks.

McConnell would never let that happen.

I’m not a fan of McConnell either. I don’t like long term politicians. McConnell doesn’t give two craps about Trump or the people that voted for him. But he is attempting to use him for his means. I think Schumer in particular could do the same to Trump and he would eat it up..... but I think the fringes have required Schumer to act as he is... Trump would sell to the high side. Doesn’t matter what McConnell wants

Oh my god! A politician exchanging access/influence/face time/favoritism for cash. I'm stunned.

Dem or GOP, they all do it. OK, not all, 99.999%.

The most important policy issue for senators and members of the House of Reps is re-election.

Not even close. When I moderated, I did it fairly, and I always sent a message to people when I deleted a post. You simply go after liberals, and you do it in secret.
I've a some of mine disappear too. I know when I cross the line, and these weren't even close. I normally don't bitch about the modding, because it's a thankless job and I get why a post of mine might not have been appropriate, but what they've done in the last couple days is bullshit.

Lets see how long this stays up.

[edit to add]

Case in point: I responded to this from Stoll:

We’re having this discussion because of the idiot Democrats, media and leftest nuts. All you have to do is read the Cooler and see they don’t get it.
My response was "No, we're having this discussion because we elected a corrupt imbecile as President and people continue to try and blame those who voted against him."

Of course, the above may not be what I said exactly to the word, but it's damn close. If that's worthy of deletion -- especially while Stoll's original post is still up -- then this place is fracked up.

Goat, I pretty much agree with you in terms of political philosophy but when you claim to be a moderator with "fairness" I have to wonder.

The best any moderator with a strong political viewpoint would be to say, " I moderated as best I could given my bias".

In the last year, I have probably deleted no more than 20 posts. My guess is maybe 1 or 2 of yours at most. And yes, plenty of righties have had theirs deleted also. Quit following Goats sophomoric lead about only the left gets their zapped. That is rediculous take on his part and extremely inaccurate. He is just being a crybaby.

So your response is to not address a concrete example of inexplicable modding, and to instead address a point I did not make. You also took the opportunity to bitch about Goat while you were at it. Well played.

Do you deny deleting the post I made in response to Stoll? If so, then perhaps Cajun should be the one to explain what happened.
