Myles Rice

Trey has proven to be a good spot up three point shooter. Mgbako will be a volume three point shooter. Tucker is an unknown. Shooting is fine.
Lineup:
Pg Rice
Wing: Galloway
Wing: Tucker/MM
4: MR
5: portal big
That is not a good shooting lineup.
To improve this…change to this:
Pg Rice
2: portal shooter
3: Tucker
4 MM
5: MR

Trey was 30-65 (46%) as a secondary ball handler in 2023. Mgbako is trending up and has the potential to put up a few 30 point games next year. He will have the green light whether you like his numbers or not.

Why not post his numbers from last year?

By the way, he was 26%.

He is a good pickup if we have some shooting around him but with Trey already in lineup and Tucker. You are very limited from the outside
I like Trey a lot, but if he starts then IU is not where they want to be. Hopefully, we can find our starting shooting guard in the portal. Put Trey at his natural sixth man spot.

In 2023 he proved he is a very good set shooter, and in 2024 he proved he can’t shoot off the dribble. Capeesh?
Not really…he was low volume and hit 30 threes as your 2 guard. That’s isn’t great. If IU wants to make a leap they need shooting. Capeesh?
Galloway needs to be a spark off the bench. Not a starter

He took 65 or two a game in 2023. You don’t need a high volume shooter next to Mgbako. Think Carmelo Anthony.

Ugly from 3 27%
I saw that. Not saying I would turn him down if he wants to come but how much cap space are we using to get a guy that appears to be an inefficient scorer except from the FT line (which is a plus)?

I think the kid from Indiana State had really solid numbers. I still think he would be a good get.

Agree Conwell is the better take but Rice is a pg. if we take Both move Trey to bench

Think we all need to calm down about “shooters.” Rice looks like a very solid player and we’d be lucky to have him. I’m sure a year of chemotherapy is tough to come back from at the age of 18 let alone come back and win conference freshman of the year. The kid went 0 for his last 22 from 3 otherwise he would have been around 33 percent. Who knows what was going thru his head at that point of the season? I’m sure he is just thrilled to be able to play college basketball at this point and is taking advantage of it. And you have a kid like Trey who genuinely appears to love playing at IU. They will figure it out.

I would guess Rice gets his 3PT % into the 30’s. Form is okay. It’s tough as freshman and players need time to acclimate. Like a Ware for example.
I agree he raises it into the 30's. 81% on free throws shows he might not be as bad as his 3P% shows and being able to play off ball more might make it easier for him to make them. If he hits 33% on 2 shots a game that should mean we're taking more 3's at least.

He's a freshman but in his third season as he redshirted his first season and cancer kept him out in '22-'23. I think he'd acclimate really nicely in Bloomington and lead for a few years.
