You didn't read the article. You have to pay $400 to get the equipment to get 30 days free and the end of which your automatically enrolled in the $120 per month plan. I'm going to give Elon a pass and I'm guessing the auto enroll function was a mistake. $400 in equipment fees is pretty ridiculous for any service though.

Wait, he's really charging people for the equipment? Doesn't matter how good of a deal that is, it's entirely counter to what he (and others) have been claiming.
What's even the point? Equipment? This whole free internet thing only really has any meaning at all if you can just hook your phone up to it and get online. It's the middle of a disaster, and homes are destroyed. Who is installing equipment? Only the people who don't need free internet, that's who.
