Movies, books, tv

Bella Ramsey is maybe the least sympathetic main character I’ve ever watched.

She seemingly has nothing redeemable about her other than being a lesbian?

I will not be watching anymore.

Fallout is coming back in the Fall. Ella Purnell is an actual lead actress who is awesome.
You can be gay.
You can be homely.
You can be unlikable.
You cannot be all 3 & carry a show…

Woke up Saturday morning to discover the Outdoor Boys on YouTube is no more.

I’ve been in an awful funk ever since.

Absolutely LOVED that channel.

It’s been a Saturday morning tradition in my house for me and the wife to see what Luke’s up to before we start our day.

I've never watched it, but it's been talked about ad nauseum in different online communities.

Ive read he started to get really uncomfortable with all the attention in real life. Strangers approaching him and his family in the airport, that sort of thing.

Luke is a genuinely good dude who made content was both wholesome and interesting. He started that channel as a way to spend time with his boys but it’s gotten way to big now, to the point where he can’t even go out anymore.

That channel made him a rich man, though.

You should check him out. If you’re into outdoor stuff at all, you’ll like it.

I've been binging Last of Us and saw from the beginning up to now over the past 2 weeks.

The shift from seeing Joel kill everybody all the time in multiple badass ways, to seeing these long teen lesbian make-out scenes, seems a downgrade. Nothing against portraying LGBTQ onscreen, it's just been a weird transition from a Rambo tough guy focus to teen angst and identity crisis focus (still with some badass killing, though).
Don’t worry, there will be more badass killings next week, I’m pretty sure. First season had some quiet episodes too, like the one with Nick Offerman and the one in the mall.

Anyone watch Your Friends and Neighbors on Apple? John Hamm has made it, his wealth has come in. Then his wife has an affair with his best friend leading to divorce, he gets fired and can no longer afford his child support and everything else, and his kids are pretty well ignoring him.

It is like watching, "The McMurtry Story".

And just got his ass arrested.

Jon Hamm says to get his name right or your $75,000 Rolex is history.

Just started Ozark again. Kinda forgot how good this is.

Yep pretty decent.

Anyone a Fredrick Backman fan? I heard him speak last week and he is really interesting and charming. Hard to believe he wrote Ove when he was just 30. His latest, My Friends, is my favorite of his. It’s about 4 young kids, 3 boys and a girl and their life, coming from very disadvantaged childhoods. Also about art and the power to change lives.

"This is Luke with the outdoor boys and I'm in the middle of the heart of Alaska, in the middle of winter and I don't have a tent or sleeping bag. I'll have to survive with just an axe, tarp and what i can find in the wilderness and I'm bringing you along with me. I'll be cooking up some good food, building a four story shelter and having a good time. Come along and enjoy the ride."

I have no earthly idea how he didn't freeze ten times over. Dude was really handy and knowledgeable about what he was doing. Definitely will miss his uploads.

@mcmurtry66 have you started the Farm? We are two episodes in and good as ever.
1. The show is brilliant.
2. England gov must be hell. My guy bald and bankrupt (English) was at a train station in China sitting at a row of massage chairs and he commented that in England this could never be possible. You’d (paraphrasing) have dodgy illegal immigrants taking a shit in them. Over and under regulation
3. As a worth ave poser and counterfeit kushner I would absolutely love his life on that farm. Like a dream. Just endless fun having the resources to pursue every idea he gets. Oh and those dogs have the perfect life - running through the fields.
4. If anyone ever wonders how old guys get young chicks you watched it in real time in season 4

Harriet was a great addition. Too bad they cannot keep her .

Gutted it out. Is Ellie for sure dead? Please god let it be so.

Next season is supposedly built around that Abbey character. Good. She is hot and far more compelling.
I read the other day that show lost 55% of its viewers over the season. The Ellie combination of character/actor with no redeemable qualities interests virtually no one but fellow homely lesbians or non-binaries. Maybe an Abby storyline will help, but we see time after time that people aren’t interested in Hollywood, Disney, etc.’s desperate attempts to push woke agendas.

This thread is non political.

How do you make a million farming...start with 2 million.

Just started watching this show. He's so over his head with this, but hope people watch all the regs and realize how ridiculous it is if you try to to start a farm.

Watched Mickey 17 last night. Directed by Bon Joon Ho (of Parasite). Starring Robert Pattinson.

Movie held my attention to the end, even though some of the themes are trite at this point. The direction is better than the ideas in the screenplay and it came close to exploring personhood in an interesting way (Derek Parfit's Reasons and Persons should have been consulted). Where Parasite was deep and nuanced regarding societal and class roles, though, this movie leans into caricature too easily. I prefer the former.

I thought Pattinson was very good in it. He's taken an interesting path with his choices. This, the Lighthouse, he did a Cronenberg movie. Reminds me a little of '90s Brad Pitt taking chances with different roles and directors.

keep watching. it's fascinating

Watched "Gold and Greed, the hunt for Fenns treasure" over the weekend on Netflix.

Now I want to take off part of the summer and go out west.

Has anyone started Department Q on Netflix? It is basically slow horses. An obnoxious detective everyone hates is given a newly created cold case department no one cares about. He eventually gets a team of people no one wants. So far it is pretty good.

Mobland just finished up.

I had no idea which way that last episode was going, but they set up next season really well.

Mobland on paramount. If you like crime family type of shows, it's pretty good.

Tom Hardy is really good in it. So is Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirror, who make a really good duo.
I concur, I’ve just watched episode 3 and it’s the best show I’ve watched in some time. Tom Hardy is really fantastic in this show.

You know I was just thinking….watching Mobland reminds me a bit of how I felt watching the Sopranos. Both are damn good shows.

Clarkson is best when he screws up, so 1 is pretty good
i wonder if they'll do another season. you'd have to think so. in some ways the last episodes showing all of the misery were endearing. i also really like how he said "i don't rely on any of htis for an income so i'm blessed." just keeps it authentic. i genuinely love the show.

He said that he is planning on next season being the last unless there is a reason to do more. He pretty much suggested he doesn't want to do it just to do it, some compelling story had to be there to keep going past next season

115 pages. I'm starting to get sentimental about this forum. If the worst happens, I want it on the record, that I endorse and encourage you all to read Moby Dick.

So, I think Mobland got a bit greedy. It was really effing good….and then it went really bad at about episode 7. It started to become like 24 in one of the bad season. I hate shows that start good to great and figure you’re sucked in enough to see it through. That remains to be seen.

Huckleberry Finn

“Thinks I, this is what comes of my not thinking. Here was this n*****, which I had as good as helped to run away, coming right out flat-footed and saying he would steal his children – children that belonged to a man I didn’t even know; a man that hadn’t ever done me no harm.”

*******

“Well, then, I’ll go to hell.”
