most likely playing Michigan in BTT

Yep, from the way it's shaping up, I think it's going to be Michigan. 8/9 seed play each other. Maybe Rutgers if Michigan can pass them, but I doubt that happens. This is me assuming us beating Rutgers and losing to Purdue.

I hope we play Michigan and think we win. Rutgers is real scary and may be the fight of the year tomorrow with them.
BTW, did I hear CMW say that was the first time he has ever beaten Minny?!? Who did they have back then Michael Thompson or Kevin Mchale? DAMN!

No. He said it was the first time he had ever won in the Barn. They beat MINN in Bloomington when he played, but not in Minneapolis.

And yes, McHale/Thompson were part of those MINN teams.

late 70s Gophers had some serious high level talent in the program. Two future NBA All Stars. Plus Trent Tucker. Thompson was first overall pick in 1978 NBA draft. 79-80 team had Sr McHale and Frosh 7'3 Randy Brewer.

Oh that makes more sense...THX

Actually CMW does have a win in the books as a player at the barn.

I hate this matchup, played our worst game of the year against them
They played one of their best games that day and if I recall shot really well from 3, way above their usual percentage. The law of averages says it’ll be a much closer game, especially if UM doesn’t shoot well.

Yeah I was at that game, they shot lights out from 3. Sitting next to 4 Michigan fans all of which looked like they sprinkled steroids on their wheaties who were having the time of their lives at our expense. I remember saying I hope we play them again in the BTT. We shall see.

UM has 3 tough games left starting with Michigan State tonight. If IU were to beat Rutgers, then in order to get a 7 seed, IU would need to beat PU and Rutgers lose at home to Penn State. Not likely but I've seen crazier things happen. The other option someone alluded to is UM winning their last 3 vs MSU, OSU and Iowa while we beat Rutgers. Then its IU and Rutgers instead.

Either way, IU has to beat Rutgers and either pull of the win at PU or win vs. UM/Rutgers in the BTT. A loss to UM would put them ahead of us in pecking order and I can only see one of us 3 teams getting in at this point.

So win two of the next three. The dreaded win one in the BTT scenario but hey maybe we win at Purdue!

Its gonna be interesting.

The Michigan game, in all likelihood, won't have a ton of upside. The only thing I can see is if both Michigan and IU are squarely on the committee's actual bubble, then that matchup will have some significance, I would think.

But if either are off the bubble, one way or another, I don't think it'll do much of anything for IU should we win the game. Obviously a loss wouldn't be a good look.

Another way to look at it...if we're on the wrong side of the bubble, and Michigan isn't one of their alternatives, I don't think a win over Michigan moves us to the right side of the bubble.

I guess it all depends on who the other actual bubble teams are they're looking at.

If we ended up beating Rutgers and Michigan over the next 10 days...and we're being considered alongside those 2 schools...you'd think our recent wins over them would factor in heavily. If there are a bunch of non BT teams though also being considered...then I don't think those two wins will resonate all that much.
