More winning

I will be interested to learn where the WH thinks he derives the power to do something like this.

If his end goal here is to get other countries to boost their controlled prices and shoulder more of the burden such that our prices would come down, then that’s a worthy goal. But this approach to doing that is legally dubious (at best) and strategically inchoate.

😂

You surely understand that we're operating under a fascist, right?

'Deriving power' is a very quaint idea. Trump is operating as a dictator and will do so until stopped. Which seems unlikely.

Dictators still endeavor to derive their power from somewhere. See: The Principate.

Thanks for the MAGA talking points, but that doesn't answer what are the specifics in this "deal" that China is saying isn't a deal, but an agreement to continue talks.

Do you mean in the sense that he’s attempting to implement pharmaceutical price controls by EO or that he’s attempting to do it at all?

This would never pass Congress - and thank God for that. And I say that not because I’m a big fan of the notoriously influential Pharmaceutical lobby. But because it would appear that some people who matter have a modicum of economic sense about them.

And I can’t see how this stays in place. I’m not even sure Trump cares if it does or not. If anything, he may be counting on it being struck down in the courts.

But it’s a good opportunity to educate people on why the government never does anything about drug prices…despite lots of politicians expressing outrage about them.

Drug prices are a huge problem. But the biggest reason they are is because we subsidize price-controlled monopsonies around the globe.
We “subsidize the price controlled around the globe”, PBMs, we don’t actually pay for our medicine at the time….there are the problems.

This is the "great" deal. I thought he was doing this so we would bring back manufacturering and to make so much money? And it's only for 90 days?

He got played.

He mentions most favored nations policies - which implies some kind of tariff directed at other countries (relative to their drug prices?). And while I’m sure he doesn’t fully understand what that means, I’m at least hoping that somebody there does.

One thing it obviously would not mean would be 30% lower drug prices starting today.

Very true…opinions are generated solely on what Trump says. Historically, the Democrats would be all in on such a policy. The Pubs would be against. Hell…it was argued on here about Biden lowering insulin prices to $47/month.
I imagine (hope?) you’re going to see a lot more Republicans crossing tribal lines to denounce price controls than you will see Democrats doing so to support them.

In fairness, there are plenty of Democrats who genuinely know that price controls are a bad policy. These people get a pass - especially if they have said so in other contexts.

But a whole lot of Dems have, for instance, advocated for reimporting price-controlled drugs from Canada…which is basically an end run to having them ourselves.

Ro Khanna is only taking issue with doing it by EO. He’s imploring Trump to work with him and Bernie to do it by statute. I’ll give him points for consistency, but not for economic common sense.

As opposed to your guy.

Must be a very very tough day for some on this board.

The market was supposed to tank big time. I cannot believe the one guy on here was selling out like a month ago.
The shelves were supposed to go empty in the stores
We were supposed to enter a deep recession.
Nobody was going to make a trade deal with trump. Not one country was going to make a deal.
Trump does not know what he is dong he will destroy the economy.

All the things some coolers liberals hoped would happen are not happening. All the cooler liberal trade and tariff experts are likely to be proven wrong. Tough day for them.

Remember, when you are dead, you do not know you are dead. It is only painful for others. The same applies when you are stupid.

You are without a doubt the dumbest guy on this board. Plus you lie about your trades despite dozens of requests to prove your trades.

Major diplomatic deliverable. More big time winning coming down the pike.

Lower perscription drug prices are bad.
What we should aim for is efficient pricing.

We do not have efficient pricing - because many markets are monopsonies and they “negotiate” by saying “Here’s your price if you vant to sell in this market. If you don’t vant to sell in this market, vee have vays of getting vhat ve vant vithout you.”

Long story short, our prices are inflated to make up for these losses. We can and should do something about that.

It remains to be seen if what Trump has in mind makes any sense. If it does, I’ll gladly make a mea culpa. But I’m betting that it doesn’t.

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll

Monday, May 12, 2025

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 52% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. forty-six percent (46%) disapprove.
The latest figures include 38% who Strongly Approve of the job Trump is doing and 38% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of 0. (see trends)

52% today and the week is just gettting started. Announce a diplomatic deal this week and this board is gong to be pure comedy.

You know that the bill has to pass Congress and the Republicans aren’t even united on it, right? Promise can’t be kept if the bill doesn’t get passed.
In separate, totally unrelated news, Jared Kushner just announced that going forward his sole source of income will be through tips given to him by the staff of The Ivanka Fund.

And sadly we are more likely to get the truth from China than trump

More likely? No offence, but was there something that just lit up in your head? The fact that Trump supposedly openly lied to the world over 4,500 times back in Trump 1.0 wasn't enough of an indicator?

Or people think that being slapped with the label 'communist', 'CCP' 'socialist' must automatically mean they lie constantly?

I think it's time for people to look inwards honestly and wonder how much of this is indoctrination. It's Pavlovian in that people become immediately discredited once a label gets slapped on him/her. That's all manipulation – by the media*, powers that be, etc.

You stop thinking or digging into the person's past positions or even whether those positions make sense.

People in power like being in power for the very reason that they can shape opinions and change behaviour for altruistic reasons but more likely self-interest or nefarious purposes.

You don't need labels to know that China lies constantly.
