This is why we need UM to lose a couple times before coming to IU. Hell, they were damn lucky to win that USC game the way their offense played in the second half. That 60 yard run to set up the game-winning score was aided by multiple missed tackles by USC.
At Illinois and Oregon at UM on 11/2 appear to be the best chances for that. Best to have them at 3 losses, otherwise there may be a flag on IU after any big gain in a close game, while UM will be able to do whatever they please.
Don’t forget ‘91 either. Trent Green clearly hit OOB, no flag. IU hits Grbac, I believe it was, when still in bounds running near sideline, flag!!! And Refs initially signal DPI on IU defending Desmond Howard on a clearly uncatchable ball out the back of the End Zone. Refs huddle, call IS THEN CHANGED (!!!) to defensive holding, thus penalty was assessed, where as the DPI on an uncatchable ball can not. Mal lets the refs have it in the post-game, gets suspended for next game at Madison.
