The way they push the ball in transition on males and misses… yikes

They will slaughter us

That’s been their mo for a long long time. I love how they get into transition. The way to beat MSU is too make shots so you can set your defense. They’re not that great in the half court.

Kinda doubt they'll slaughter us. I said that about Illinois, so take it for what its worth. But MSU's main offense isn't overly hard to guard, and Ballo should be very competitive against their bigs.

There is a danger they could get rolling if/when our offense struggles...but I suspect it'll be a physical, ugly game that they pull away in the end. Nebraska kind of game.

MS has probably the 4 quickest guards in the BT. They are quicker at every position than IU, its not a good matchup for iU at all.

You could be right, they don't shoot it well from 3 but I just feel like our transition D is not very good.

Which Nebraska beat down?

PSU isn't a very good matchup for IU either. Nor was OSU. Both those teams have faster perimeter guys than we do. Illinois and Iowa don't, necessarily, and those teams destroyed us.

If we turn it over against them, and/or our offense is jacking bad outside shots all game...and it allows them to get out in transition all game...yeah, they'll probably drill us. If we handle the ball well, and can effectively get in the lane with Rice, Gallo, and get Ballo involved well...they won't blow us out. I'm sure they'll beat us, though.

Mrs. Lincoln, did you like the play, other than the shooting part?
Ehh...not a great example. Louisville was a blowout from the start. Gonzaga, over quickly after halftime. Iowa quickly after half time. Illinois was a blowout from the start. Nebraska was a one possession game with a little over 5 minutes remaining in the game. 1 damn effective timeout away from keeping it within reach, or even winning. That's not a blowout like the OP was suggesting, not even close.

Izzo has been teaching this for decades. He perfected the grab and go after a made shot or even a FT. He taught some pretty innovative action from the other team scoring. He was also one of the first big time coaches to put his clinic and practice stuff on the internet. Dude is a living legend.

But Iowa plays transition basketball. That’s what scares me about Michigan State. Ballo will be sucking wind.

Yeah but it was still ****ing Nebraska nonetheless...

I'd say their pace is quick, for sure. But they approach their transition game differently than MSU does. MSU wants to jam it down your throat, get to the rim at all costs...reacting then, and kicking for outside shots from there. Iowa is much more open and varied, and often deferring to transition perimeter shots. Obviously they attack the rim as well, but its a completely different approach and mentality.

I think IU is better suited to guard "main street" in transition, than they are a team that spreads and attacks the full width of the court. "Better" being a relative term measuring something they're not great at in any form, transition defense. That's a Mr Obvious statement, pretty much every team should be able to guard the paint area better in transition than the wings. But for IU, its exaggerated seems like.

I get what you're saying for sure. It makes alot of sense, and I do think Iowa is a worse matchup for us the way the spread the floor in transition. Like everyone on here, I'm just tired of watching us get blown out. Hopefully, we can keep it competitive form here on out.

I think us getting blow out, winning, being competitive, etc... is fully dependent on Woodson's ability to get the fellas focused and ready to play. Another Mr Obvious statement there...but I don't think stylistically, MSU is all that much worse of a matchup for us than say a Penn State or Ohio State was. I just think, per normal for his IU teams, we're seeing the inconsistency play out.

I think Michigan State puts stress on anyone that allows them to dictate the pace and physicality. Sometimes we allow that, sometimes we don't.
