I know he left but he's an IU grad and a really good guy so congrats to him and his family.
He graduated from IU and moved on. Good for him.
Well that was how I felt until he gave the bogus reason as to why he was moving on. Couple that with the obvious hole he left in the defense. I mean it wasn't like he wouldn't have started. He graduated from IU and moved on. Good for him.
I don't wish him any ill will, but he falls into the Mark Hagen category to me - just a gun for hire. For me,at least, it didn't seem that simple.
Originally, when I read about his leaving, the story from him was that he was moving back closer to home to pursue a graduate degree and that he was done with football.
I'm thinking well that's a big loss but good for him it's all about moving on after football and pursuing further education.
When the story later evolved into he just decided to play for another team that's when he lost me as a fan (I'm certain he's devastated).
Now I contrast that with Dan Feeney's decision.
At any rate, it looks like it ended well for all concerned.
My opinion is just that: my opinion. I'm very old school. Team first. That's a nearly extinct approach in this day and age. (I understand the "he's a graduate with the freedom to go wherever argument although I think the whole free agent deal has gotten way beyond the intent of the rule {most of these grad transfers have zip to do with further education} ).
Ummm...most coaches aren't just going to stay at IU forever. They want to move up.I don't wish him any ill will, but he falls into the Mark Hagen category to me - just a gun for hire.
Hagen, an IU grad and former player, negatively recruited against IU while a coach at PU. He comes back to coach here and then kicks us in the teeth again. I wouldn't trust him any farther than I could throw him.
So, if they both succeed, fine. But I don't root for them because, when it came right down to it, they left IU in the dust without a second thought. Remember - Hunter originally said he was just done with football. What a joke.
And don't kid yourself - Hagen will be gone as soon as he gets another opportunity.
Purdue wasn't a move up. And IU was willing to match his salary at A&MUmmm...most coaches aren't just going to stay at IU forever. They want to move up.
I was just stating facts. What did I say that isn't true?Oh my God! Mark Hagen comes back - I repeat - comes back to IU and was promoted to defensive line coach. He came to his alma mater and you are bad mouthing him?
You sure about that? And you know, I'm sure, that he went to A&M with Wilson's full blessing, right? And that Purdue was a significant upgrade over IU when he went there, right? The fact is you have no idea what you're talking about concerning Hagen.Purdue wasn't a move up. And IU was willing to match his salary at A&M
It's not like USC was courting him.
To be fair, I do not believe Williams lost his redshirt b/c of MH leaving. He started the year as a RB and I'm 99% sure had already played on ST as a KR before he was even moved. He was moved after the season started b/c it was obvious we needed more talent at CB.While I wish the guy no ill will and appreciate the years he did play for us I have a hard time forgetting that he took off and left his teammates high and dry.
Those two freshmen who had their red shirts burnt and their postions switched (both are now back at RB and WR respectively) might not be so charitably forgiving...they wasted a year on the wrong side of the ball and one got hurt in the process.
If he'd stuck around we might have won the Rutgers and MIchigan games.
Add that BS reason of why he was transferring (to get into a Physical Therapy Graduate School program) and I'm pretty well soured on the guy.
How's that grad school program working out for him? Did Ok$t even offer that program?? What did he actually end up taking there?
So list me under: Who Cares?
If he was such a great guy he would have stuck with his teammates in my opinion.
