McCulley in the portal per Twitter nt

The receiver room will be fine. EJ Williams slots into his role nicely and even without McCulley + EJ Williams the room has been crushing.

And this probably makes sense from his perspective as a business decision. He has day 2 pick upside if he can string together a good season and he's tracking towards UDFA with his snap share as it currently stands. I don't fault him for doing it, but it's so deeply disappointing that this is the new normal.

Also in all likelihood one our five highest paid NIL players. NIL is simply not sustainable. Enforceability is the next shoe to drop.

Who is to say that EJ won't do the same thing?

I don't begrudge players leaving because they don't like new coaches, or they don't get playing time. I don't tend to look at those situations as players not putting in work or lacking competitiveness, etc. I look at it as players want to play. Period. I might want them to stay and "compete" or "earn time" but that's just a selfish fan's perspective. The kid transfers out and hopefully finds his level and gets to play somewhere.

If a kid has bad habits or doesn't work hard or doesn't listen then that will shake out eventually, too.

My son was on a very good basketball team as the 6th man (I thought he was better than that, but whatever). He went through stretches where he hardly played at all. Eventually he asked if he could drop down to the B team just so that he could play and have fun. His request was denied, but he did wind up playing more and playing well. But the point is for a lot of kids they just want to get out there.

IMO, it is F up to have the portal open in the MIDDLE of a season!
You are on a team, probably taken $$ so stick it out until after the season.
It doesn’t matter when the portal opens. He could have declared his intention to quit the team even if the portal wasn’t open yet. The problem here is the red shirt rule. You should not be allowed to quit on your team using the desire to maintain your redshirt eligibility as justification. It’s an easy fix.

Great potential but he didn't put in the effort Cig wanted. Even got called out in public. Looks like people need to work hard to play here. Nice to have a coach with standards. Go Hoosiers!
He got injured, it was hard to catch up.

At least Tayven didn't split. Yet.
You know, I’m to the point where I’m not real worried if he does.

It would be great if he’s up to the task and is successful here, but if not him then CCC will have someone that is.

My thinking, as of this moment, is that CCC will look to the portal again next season for his starter.

Dark horse pick, they could bring back Sorsby. He’s putting up some great stats for Cinci. Just have to win the bidding war.

I 100% believe next year’s starting QB is on someone else’s roster right now.

I don't. I think it'll be one of the three.

Unless this staff is only talking the talk, about being great at training quarterbacks.

A guy like Rourke is rare. NFL or near NFL level tools with college eligibility? Most QBs, even the best in the portal, won't be his level. And if they are, sure will be interesting to see the dollars required.

I loved getting DMc into Bloomington after watching him be a real problem in the MIC. Had everything you wanted in a QB. Then he and daddy decide to strong arm Tommy and be moved to WR for a easier route to the league. Now this? I fully believe CCC calling him out for lack of work ethic and consistency was spot on. Kid clearly has a higher opinion of himself than just about everyone else. Addition by subtraction. Transfer to the MAC and be so-so as "the man."

Williams needs to learn how to run patterns correctly. That second interception was on Him. Instead of squaring at a 90 degree angle and forcing the defender to work through his body to get to the ball, he 'rounded" the pattern and took it upfield thereby creating the space for the Defender to undercut and intercept. I noticed immediately when I saw the play live, and Jake Butt made the same comment upon seeing the replay.

You hit the nail on the head there. As an old football coach it was a pisser to watch during the game and then on film a receiver run a poor route and cause the QB to look bad because of a missed completion or interception.

#5, Keyshawn Williams was running that route on the 2nd INT. Agree a lazy route.

EJ Williams #7, who was pretty effective last year late in the season, may be moving up a spot with McCulley departure.

My bad. I forgot EJ was still with Us. Nice problem to have. Guys like Coby and EJ who showed some potential and contributed last year are running about 3rd string on the depth chart.
