It’s the smart move. He was buried on the depth chart with no real hope of getting meaningful snaps in practice, let alone games. And he’s already being recruited over, given the hole in recruiting he has produced. Hope it works out for him.Glad IU confirmed it was McCulley's decision like I heard earlier. This is a group with talent it just hasn't been shown yet in a Hoosier uniform. They need to really show up this season.
You know that dude never wears a shirt while just walking around campus. Hell, I wouldn't if I had a body like that.Jeebus, who's the guy in the back carved out of stone?
I think that might be Jaquez Smith.Jeebus, who's the guy in the back carved out of stone?
I immediately thought about trick plays as well. Does our OC have a history of trick plays?Really, really smart move on his part... There's a heck of a lot more WR jobs in pro football than there are QB slots and he has the advantage of having one of the best WR coaches in all of football as his position coach... With his ability to throw the ball too, his potential as a trick play catalyst is open ended... Should be fun to watch him getting better game by game...
And look at the WR contracts being signed right now? Starting at about $20M for the good ones. I truly hope he can use his size and athleticism (and knowledge as a former QB) to crush it for IU!Really, really smart move on his part... Yes - Bell does use trick plays. Here’s a good snippet.I immediately thought about trick plays as well. Does our OC have a history of trick plays?
I really like running QBs, especially in college, but each NFL team has 6 WRs and only 2 QBs. He is big for a WR.
Excellent research BRCB!!!Yes - Bell does use trick plays. Here’s a good snippet.

Welcome to the spin zone. My guess is that Donovan will be in the portal before he takes another snap as quarterback at Indiana.
I have often wondered how much it helps a QB turned a WR. Wr to DB?And look at the WR contracts being signed right now? Starting at about $20M for the good ones. I truly hope he can use his size and athleticism (and knowledge as a former QB) to crush it for IU!
Reese Taylor… QB —> WR —> DB….I’m sure he’s benefited from learning multiple positions.I have often wondered how much it helps a QB turned a WR. Wr to DB?
Wait…what?Welcome to the spin zone. My guess is that Donovan will be in the portal before he takes another snap as quarterback at Indiana.
McCulley asked to move to WR so forget your spin zone. He also knows the routes and will do very well at WR. McCulley has speed, strength, and moves to excel in that spot at WR. I bet he plays a lot from that position.Welcome to the spin zone. My guess is that Donovan will be in the portal before he takes another snap as quarterback at Indiana.
As a former coach I’m sure you realize it was a bit more nuanced than that.McCulley asked to move to WR so forget your spin zone.
Was he the highest ranking recruit that Indiana had or just the highest rated quarterback? Granted he was thrown in the deep end of the pool without adequate preparation in the Ohio State game and then the rest of the season was forgettable on both sides of the ball.Wait…what?
I can tell you McCulley should be a great WR with his hand eye coordination and his running ability plus speed. Was he the highest ranking recruit that Indiana had or just the highest rated quarterback? CTA thought he was going to be a great quarterback. Now he's thinking he's going to be a great wide receiver. I certainly hope he can find a position on the field but something just doesn't pass the smell test here.
I'm still a big fan of Michael Penix. He exhibited signs of greatness before getting hurt, came back and got hurt again and then did it a third time. And now Washington has jumped on him. There is no quit in Michael Penix.

It was his choice so let the QB go.and with his hand eye coordination, his great arm, and his running ability plus speed, should have had a high ceiling at QB once he learned the position.
a high level receiver helps a lot.
a high level QB, always helps more.
At the BIG level it is the right decision for him. If he still wants to play QB he will need to drop down a level and who knows where his head will be after this season.I think McCulley made the right choice. He has athletic ability in spades but his accuracy and touch was pretty bad, even for a freshman. He looked so uncomfortable back there. He got by with it in high school because of his athletic ability but he didn’t seem to develop a passing game.
Coach has a nice crib!

The likelyhood is that his conversations with the staff made his role as a QB here clear, and he chose one of the options he was given. I think it is the the right choice and I hope he is happy and productive. If not, he make seek a QB role in the MAC.
2-10 buys a lot these days.Coach has a nice crib!
You ignore the 8-3 in 2019 and 6-2 in 2020, if coach hadn't made big changes in the staff, I would be down too but let's see what IU does this season. 2020 was a different year but coach Allen handled the season better than most coaches did.2-10 buys a lot these days.
2019 was Deboer and 2020 was Wommack. Other than losing both starting units to graduation or what not or having a new HC that cleaned house last year just can’t happen. You ignore the 8-3 in 2019 and 6-2 in 2020, if coach hadn't made big changes in the staff, I would be down too but let's see what IU does this season. 2020 was a different year but coach Allen handled the season better than most coaches did.
This what is in concrete. Wommack and DeBoer were both hired to Bloomington by the HC who has again just upgraded his coaching staff with some experienced pedigree owners. Tom Allen is very talented at building relationships. That'll build chemistry blending in the new hires. He's a true troubleshooter who has proved he's not afraid to find solutions to on field performance. I'm extremely excited for the upcoming season.2019 was Deboer and 2020 was Wommack. There's no quit in Nick Sheridan either. He makes you fire him. And a coach actually paid him money to fire him. Now he's Penix' quarterback coach. That will be interesting...Was he the highest ranking recruit that Indiana had or just the highest rated quarterback? This is the most Corporate HR response I have ever seen on a sports message board. I almost feel like you are trolling. This what is in concrete. To Me, moving from QB to DB is equivalent to watching a baseball catcher move to the Outfield. When you catch You see the entire field and know how to set a Defense in pitching to particular hitters. When you go to the Outfield, you are seeing everything in reverse, but the knowledge you developed catching and seeing the entire field should help you position yourself to play Defense, and maybe get a quicker first step on a ball when You know the type of pitch and the location that is being called.I have often wondered how much it helps a QB turned a WR. Wr to DB?
Not trying to argumentative (seriously) but Sheridan is now the TE's coach at Washington...There's no quit in Nick Sheridan either. He makes you fire him. And a coach actually paid him money to fire him. Now he's Penix' quarterback coach. That will be interesting...
This is so freaking stupid. By your logic, no head coach should ever get credit for anything.2019 was Deboer and 2020 was Wommack. Other than losing both starting units to graduation or what not or having a new HC that cleaned house last year just can’t happen.
Definitely looks like he’s headed for the portal!Welcome to the spin zone. My guess is that Donovan will be in the portal before he takes another snap as quarterback at Indiana.
