to put the names on the back of jerseys. For the first time in my 76 years I will have no idea who I am watching next season. Fire away.
Might as well. The "play for the name on the front" hasn't worked too well lately.

Drilling down a bit.....The purpose of no names on the jerseys is to promote "team", not individuals. Makes sense if your team has some longevity. In today's world, a "team" doesn't need to gel, nor can it, because there isn't time in a year to gel. A team today replaces working parts on the plane while it is flying. The madness of the portal and NIL has mutated this thing into a flowerbed of "annuals" to be replanted......and no "perennials" that restart every year on their own. Even if a team wins the Natty or gets to a Final Four....those players will have come and gone before anyone at those institutions got to know them. It is now common for a "college basketball player" to complete his four years at 2, 3 or 4 different schools, especially if he's any good; then it isn't even going to be 4 years. They are independent contractors....travelling salesmen...call them whatever you want. Even the NBA can't match this kind of mobility...because they at least have "contracts" that extend for multiple years. Its more "current project" than team nowadays. Kind of like a Hollywood production....assembling a specific group of actors for this one movie...then they break up and move on to another project. I guess you could say....might as well put the names on the jerseys so we can at least remember who was on the team this or that year. At least photos will help us remember who they were.
A lot to agree with here for me. Not ironically, also one of my reasons for not enjoying NBA as much (I know, a different game) as I once knew a lot of the players from their collegiate performances. Between global recruiting and NIL chicanery, it's hard to identify with players on a short team tenure.
Lighter side of same point ... how could I have ever liked a former PUke or pUKe player in the league? Now, "who are they?" (unless 7'4")
