Masculine Dads Raise Confident Daughters

It's a nice story. I'd like to see data, though, on personality of fathers and the resulting personality of children.

I don't understand why, for example, two flamingly gay men or two loving mothers couldn't also teach a daughter to value herself.

I also think, based on my own children, that a large part of personality is genetic or formed very young in life, and not so much "taught" by these later "masculine" requirements.

I have tried to raise my daughter like the example from Molly's Game. I have held her to high standards, tried to get her into sports, required reasoned argument vs. crying, etc. But she's a shy girl, emotional, not overly confident, and not aggressive or competitive (at sports) in the least. And she's essentially had this personality since she was probably 3 or 4. I actually think moms might play a bigger role in expectations, emotional responses, etc. than dads or at least in my daughter's case they seem to have. I only hope her expectations of how she should be treated are high and she will find good men to date.

This post was made 5 years ago, so I don't even recall the article or post if I'm being honest. My sense is that it wasn't intended to suggest other people cannot teach daughter's appropriately, but that masculinity itself isn't a bad thing and isn't always toxic. I feel like this was around that period where the toxic masculinity bullshit was being thrown around liberally.

Bringing a bit of a hard-nosed, "tough love" perspective is much more aligned with masculinity. But again, that doesn't mean that is the only, or even the optimal, approach.

Anyone have adult daughters who are winning? My eldest is in Wrigleyville working for CDW, my youngest is in IU nursing school- it’s rewarding AF if your kids are great! Thank the Lord!!
You really should thank someone if they are your kids because it didn't come from you.

I am a lot like that article and raised my daughter to take no guff and son to treat women correctly. My daughter worked with me around the house and we worked hard and she still does, earning her MBA while working full time. My son was doing well until getting hit in the head by a discus in a track meet. He is now dealing with bipolar disease. He is very smart and won't go to college due to all the woke stuff going on.

Like all movements the women's movement has gone too far as masculinity isn't toxic, running roughshod over people is toxic.

V13, wondering why your smart son cannot go to college because "of all the woke stuff going on".

It may be as easy as he is a smart kid and has identified that today's college is 90% scam. Once Gov got into the college loan picture, it became nothing more than a ponzy scheme. Seems the boy potentially has figured that out, ahead of may other sheep. Madoff says HI!

Go look at what your pal Cray said to me a complete stranger. He has zero boundaries and if he said it to my face, we’d have a different outcome. You trumpists need to rein in your junk yard dog. He’s not right in the head.

How about we all win here? You stop bringing the negative and you have nothing to worry about. WE will protect you and keep your enemies away. Call it insurance for you to continue. $300 a month and this all goes away, we are your friends..As long as you pay your insurance premiums every week. I'd hate to be without protections if I were you.
Let all prosper!

He surpassed this realm long ago. He's connected with powers well beyond our understanding. All hale Cray All hale cray!

They are welcome to quit anytime. And they know that. I don’t demand the expensive private lessons.
My son did, AAU basketball, travel baseball and junior golf. We were on the road all the time. From junior high on we traveled to Louisville and Indy after school for practices once or twice a week depending on the team he played with.

At the end of his high school career, I came to the conclusion he would have been much better off working on his skills in town and enjoying things like camping and waterskiing instead of all the travel.

Ahh gummies, before gummies were mainstream. But when did you move into the nursing home?

Buddy, never experienced that kind of gummy.

My first serious girlfriend though had zero idea what she was doing in that department and the first time left teeth marks. I nearly punched her in the side of the head because it felt like she was trying to eat the tip off.

Some of the worst pain of life.

My oldest daughter has had her challenges. She has given us two grandsons, but also has been divorced twice. She is having acl knee surgery this Thursday so now has to deal with that. My youngest is a cook at a hospital. She makes around $17 an hr which seems crazy to me. lol
