Malik to IU

I think the solution is to put JG into the starting lineup over Race.
That’s possible.

IF Jordan can improve his handle and become more consistent shooting from the perimeter he could also see significant minutes at the 3. That would allow for mega lineup configurations for Woodson.

If Trayce returns, this team could do serious damage next year and could compete for a Big 10 title and banner #6.

This very well could end up how it shakes out. But man, that would be a big disappointment, assuming those starters all play more minutes than the bench guys you show.

To me, that would imply that we showed marginal improvements. Probalby 5th ish in the conference, 7 ish NCAA seed.

We need to play our elite talent and athletes more minutes. The answer will fall somewhere in between your lineups and this (which is similar to what I hope happens):

Starters
Johnson (plays a big bulk of the minutes at point)
Tamar
JHS
Jordan
TJD

Bench
Race (plays 3rd most minutes on team behind X and TJD)
Malik (plays a lot)
Trey
1 surprise guy like a transfer or Banks or Gunn earning a lot of minutes.
Who cares who starts? Our young, talented guys will get an opportunity to play meaningful minutes in every game.

True. Woody showed for most of the season that he’d default to the starters more often than not though.

Great commit for IU.

I think landing a lefty 5-star PF is a strong indication that Trayce intends to stay in the draft if he can.

I also think IU's continued recruiting is even more indication that Trayce is likely gone because the greatest need is shooting and they just got a non-shooter.

But, even without Trayce, if Indiana can get one true shooter they have a chance to be better this year.

I can't help but salivate thinking about this team's potential in 2023. Assuming none of these guys are good enough to leave after next season(which really isn't a guarantee). They could potentially have 4th year Trey and JG. 3rd year Tamar, and this ELITE 2022 class would all be in their 2nd year. If they could pull off the trifecta and land KJ, that's a legit title contender right there. Obviously with the portal and the talent level of all these players, it's unlikely this scenario will happen even if they get KJ, but a guy can dream right.

Trayce has publicly said that if he is projected to be top 35ish he will remain in the draft, and if not, he is returning to Bloomington. Whether or not TJD stays in the draft is wholly dependent on how well he performs in front of scouts over the next 1.5 months.

We still need some shooting to feel really good.
I’m good with whatever makes IU better, but just don’t see a scenario where ever improving Race doesn’t start. Woody does love his upperclassman too.

I think because of the roster, woody didn't deviate from the starting unless injury or suspension. I think he will be a little more open to changing the starting lineup/minutes because of the influx of talent

Ok, not bad lineup. But still worry about outside shooting. If TJD is to the NBA who do we add? Dennis or McNeil or someone not mentioned yet?

Our bench wasn’t more productive than our starters this year. Hopefully that will not be the case next year. Maybe one or two of our bench guys will have the maturity to win a starting spot. I think JHS has the best chance.

In reply to those who think Reneau should start over Race...

I'm happy that Reneau committed and think he will be a valuable backup next season, but honestly, what is he better at than 6th year Race? Race is going to eat his lunch every day in practice. Every day.
Yeah. Don’t see MR beating out RT. He is going to be a great player for us, but he likely doesn’t start next year. If he does, it will be due to injury or he took a big step and is better than everybody thinks.

Bates nor JG have shown any consistency in their games on either end of the floor. I get it, JG and Bates have way more “upside” than Kopp or Galloway, but they haven’t shown anything. Everyone rips Galloway’s jump shot, Bates shot 33% from the field last year and played just 5 less minutes per game than Galloway who shot 47% from the field. And Galloway is 10x the defender that Bates is. If Bates and Geronimo aren’t starting next year blame them, not Woodson. It means they haven’t made the jump.
Maybe they haven't shown it, but have they been allowed to play through epileptic looking shooting performances like Kopp.? It's never good when you're 50 on the couch and like you could have put down the drink or taken another sip and probably not shot the ball into the stands like out of a cannon. Once I saw that, I was finished with him

You may not like it, but unless Woodson goes against everything he’s said since he’s been here, very real chance both Kopp and Galloway start. I think JHS is too good of a ball handler to leave out of the starting lineup, but unless JG and Bates have an epiphany this off-season on the defensive end, don’t be shocked to see both of them coming off the bench. Woodson loves Kopp and he didn’t come back to Indiana for his last year of eligibility to play 10 minutes a game.
IMO It was a lot less of a case of Woody loving Kopp then not trusting who he had on the bench. If Bates and JG make a jump this summer, a real possibility, and Dennis comes to IU, Kopp will have trouble getting on the floor.

Kopp came back because he has not graduated yet. 10 minutes is what he should get.

Right now, Race is a better shooter than Malik. I also believe thatRace will be a 36% from 3 next year, with 60 attempts.
