Lou Watson - Indiana Hoosier coaching legend.

As I recall he was under a lot of heat though.
I was a student at IU during the last Watson year. The final home game, the students were chanting "Lose Lou, Save IU." The athletic department guys tried to shut it down to no avail. And then Coach Knight was hired and the rest is history. Talk about an out of nowhere hire, no one was mentioning his name as the possible new coach.

Watson resigned with a game left in the season, due to “player unrest.” He was also under a lot of heat as many - unfairly - thought the McGinnis/Downing/Wright Hoosiers should have been competing for a national championship.

So, yes, Watson was not fired, but, as with Woodson, it’s about as close as one can get without crossing the line.

Took a baskeball coaching class from him, quote " boys this game is very simple, you have to get the ball in the "hup" lol
"Boys this game is very simple, you have to get the ball to McGinnis and he'll get it in the 'hup' "

Woodson's version was "boys this game is very simple, you just have to get over the "hump."
