I doubt that it has ever been done by the last seed in scoccer. Now all we need is champs in basketball to round it all out.

It's only in recent years that they've seeded teams all the way down to 16. It used to be just the top 8 teams who were seeded when it was a 32-team tourney, and going far back, the tourney only consisted of 8-16 teams.

According to the article on the IU Soccer site, we are, in fact, the first and only 16th seeded team to win the title.

I love it. IU has won titles as the front runner, and two of our recent titles were as lower seeds (I believe we were seeded 8th in 2003).
