Getting called out for basically saying that he thinks Kentucky will definitely lose if they play in Gonzaga's 6,000 seat stadium and Kentucky hasn't played in front of a crowd that small since the 1970s.

From a financial standpoint a bigger venue makes sense, plus more Ky alumni will be able to attend. He isn't concerned about lthe possibility of losing to Gonzaga despite what others want to believe.

That’s correct, but if you quantify it, the ticket sales are crumbs relative to the big money in tv share. If it is a true home and home, UK would reap the reward of having Rupp sold out for a game. So over the course of the series, it’s a moot point. IMO, this is not about the money but everything to do with avoiding giving Gonzaga an advantage on their home floor.

Tough to win in small venues with rabid fans, heck Cal has problems playing in bigger venues (SSAH) with rabid fans. Clearly Cal doesn't want an automatic L on the schedule.

Its complete horsechit...Calipari is such a slimy douchebag.

What, on earth, does the size of the crowd have to do with their chances of winning? What did that even mean?

In the end, I'm sure its about money. Gonzaga, while being a national power that doesn't need the exposure a Kentucky series will provide...is still a small school, without football revenue, with a small gym that doesn't generate much revenue...the money they'll get from this series is probably a pretty big deal to them.

Neither IU or UK need the series to start back up. But if I were Woody and Dolson, I'd very publicly put the formal offer out there...heck even on social media.

Cal offered that exact deal 9 years ago. Surfboard said, “homey don’t play that way”, took his ball and went home. Uk played UNC and IU played Kennesaw State. Homey Fred sure showed Cal!

I'd do that, but I'd first try and negotiate home and home, then defer to a rotation of home, home and larger venue in Indy/Lville/Nashville/Cincy, and finally to a large single venue. Not sure it would warrant Lucas Oil and think there could be lots of empty seats... Gainbridge/Bankers Life might be better. Now, I agree, if you could sell out Lucas...

The Dome had 34,000 fans in it for every IU-UK game. Great atmosphere and national tv . How did everyone forget that? Cal said he would play EVERY game there. IU blew it.

Cal also said he'd play Gonzaga in a 6000 seat arena... and that not coming to Assembly Hall was a player safety issue... Just because he says something, doesn't mean me means it, or he'll do it. How did anyone forget that?

Cal is never coming to AH, quoting safety issues, but we know he did not want to take a young team to a hostile arena in early December. He absolutely was willing to play ALL games in Indy. Said it over and over. Cal NEVER said he was playing at Gonzaga's home gym. He said he was playing in Spokane, never said Gonzaga U's home gym. How did anyone forget that?

and you believe Cal is not coming to AH over "safety issues"? So his original premise is a lie, and he's been caught in countless lies, and yet you still choose to believe him? Saying he's going to play them in Spokane is saying he's going to play them in their gym, unless you specify differently. Anyone who says they're coming to Lex to play UK is saying their playing at UK, unless you specify otherwise. Where else would you play in Spokane, First Baptist's gym?

I'm with you, I want to play UK and I think overall IU has blown it, but I also know what Cal says and does are two different things, so I would never lay all the blame on IU where he's involved, because you never know if what he says, he truly means or will deliver on. He makes a history of implying one thing and doing another.

Did cal actually start that safety BS or was it just his excuse making fans? Have heard it from many Ky fans who were not there, but don't recall hearing that from Cal.

Cal cancelled the series for one very simple reason. The next game would have been in Lex and his team was going to be down. He didn't want to get his ass beat in his own dump arena. The Ky fans (and purdue fans) then launched this fake news crap about safety and mistreatment to cover it up.

Once cal said he wanted to play neutural sites (which he actually did not want to do the next season for sure), fred came back with a logical compromise. Cal took his slippery ball and ran.

Total doucheweasel

He didn’t cancel it UK just didn’t renew. It was all convenient to let it die.

Cal is not coming to IU over safety issues- that is what you wrote. Cal is not coming to IU because he does not want his young team exposed to the IU crowd in early December, and LOSE to IU-that is what I wrote. PLEASE,reread my post, and your apology is accepted in advance.

Cal specifically said he was not playing in Gonzaga's home gym. He specifically said Spokane Arena. Please reread the CBSSPORTS.com, and your apology is already accepted.

The only blame on IU is they would not return to the neutral site games, even though it was fine to do for 19 years. Call Cal out on this publicly, Mr. Dolson, and see if Cal honors his words.

I'm all for it not sure why they can't play the game in Nap each year like it used to be. It's crazy that we are no longer playing each other. Hopefully the series will return soon.

It wasn’t always played in Indy and freedom hall. It used to alternate home and home with neutral sites. Cal never wanted home and home. He hates playing big games at Rupp in the pre-season.

2 in a row vs Kennesaw State. uk stuck with playing UNC and UCLA on national TV. Surfboard Fred sure showed uk how to schedule! "Homey don't play that way".
So UNC and Kansas aren’t equivalent? Played in the Maui invitational etc. sure the schedule was soft but it’s not like UK schedule has been ridiculously good. UK fans aren’t overly impressed with it either.
