should the need arise, possible home run hires at the assistant level could be Dane fife, Michael Lewis, Greg tonegal, but not Greg Paulus. Not sure if other good players like Recker, Brian Evans and Coverdale are but they could be considered assistant material as well.

I think we have to get someone with some head coaching experience. I would hate to have somebody's first head coaching job to be Indiana. Heck, I dont even care if we got that one hot D2 coach, cant remember his name. Wouldnt mind having Fife or Lewis as an assistant here as well. I know I hate to think this way but man if we could just hire someboy for 3-5 years, see if it works out or if Stevens or Donovan become available then cut ties.

I don't want Luke Recker to ever step foot on IU's campus again, let alone inside Assembly Hall.

Greg Tonagel is head coach material. His days as an assistant are long-gone. I'd totally support bringing Fife, Lewis, and/or Coverdale into the mix, though.

IU needs a proven winner...Donovan, Stevens, miller, Marshall...mack

The OP is talking about assistant coaches. And really, people need to stop dreaming of Stevens or Donovan. They're not going to voluntarily leave an NBA gig for college. Has that ever happened...?

Rick Pitino did it when he left the Knicks for Kentucky.

Hoiberg leaving the Bulls is the most likely NBA coach to head back to college next year.

While I don't disagree with your point, I have maintained for years that there is less risk in making a move and hiring someone that doesn't work out than in doing nothing.

The longer that we continue with Crean, the greater the risk that the IU brand will never be elite again. There is no chance that a KU, UK, or other top program would have kept him this long. For years as a fan base we have been split b/t the people that want him gone and the people that say keep him, simply because they fear that we can never bring in a home run hire. Ironically, I am guessing that most every poster would agree that Crean isn't an elite Coach and that IU will never be elite under him.

The risk is continued apathy.

And the longer that the IU admin waits, the greater the risk that it is too late to rekindle the excitement and the brand.

I always wondered how Scott Skiles would do in college. I really liked his teams with the Bulls. I didn't follow the Bucks as much. He's had four head coaching jobs in the NBA,which is pretty much par for the course. Coaches tend to bounce around. He could do very well in college and at least should be considered.

He (RP) also made contact with our AD about the HC position. Not sure if this has been said before on this forum. Itty bitty inside connection.

Boston has a good team, owns a top 4 pick in the draft, and has an outside shot at signing Hayward. Doubt Stevens leaves now. If you're willing to go to the $8 Mil range, Donovan might listen though.

What about Chris Collins?

Recker lives in Iowa City and is a devout Hawkeye now. He wouldn't consider

I was at the UT/Tech game last night and saw some motion offense. Chris Beard spent many years on Knight's staff at Tech and is now the coach there. I'm not saying he should be a candidate at IU but he seems to be a coach on the rise.
