Saw on X from Wayne Winston (he says he a math professor) that with Leal, Tray, Rice, Goode and Big IU plays 20 points better per 100 possessions than Duke and only gives up 73 points per 100 possessions on defense which is 15 points better than the best Defense in the country (Tenn).

I know Cav doesn't like Leal but the numbers this late in the season do not lie. Have to find away to keep these guys on the floor

I'm betting that is based on a very small sample size, primarily boosted by the results of the PU game.
It's not like CMW has been running that lineup out on the court much, until recently...when it actually started working.
Was he running it earlier in the season? Me thinks not or at least not very much. Woody has proven slow to recognize that things. He can't see past the ratings, size and athletic ability of kids to understand what actually wins games.

Took way too long to figure out that three seniors (all Hoosiers) would be pretty good together with a high BB IQ.
This is where I fear NIL the most. "Decision making on who to play."
We don't win with MM, Reneau, and Ballo at the same time. Can't guard the perimeter, etc.
Since we pay them a ton, it appears hard to bench an expensive guy.
Bad conflict of interest in my opinion. Go Hoosiers!

One thing I feel Woodson deserves credit for is he’s not been “scared” to bench guys, or sit them for long stretches if they’re not playing well.

There was a moment at the end of the PSU game where all the players but Rice were huddled up in the timeout before PSU’s last shot. Goode was screaming for him to get in the huddle. I remember some game back in November or December where Goode was doing the same thing, except the rest of the team seemed checked out.

I get the sense that Galloway and Leal weren’t so locked in (also Galloway coming off of knee surgery) at the beginning of the season and Rice wasn’t ready to lead the team, but the staff gambled with the hopes that Rice would develop quickly into the starting PG role. After the new year the seniors — Goode, Galloway, Leal, and Ballo — decided to get their shit together.

I can see the temptation to leave Rice in the starting lineup. It took a while, but the recent experiment bringing him off the bench has paid off, and just in time to make a run.

He has nothing to lose! IU has lost 8 of their last 12, he is going to go home and smoke his victory cigars, even if he looses! So he is going to play his best, he doesn't care at his point which over paid player he pisses off, and he sure in the hell don't care what the fans think!

Might be time for year 5 talk.Is the unretire statement coming

Not really. Hes done it all 4 years, seems like.
Hm. I seem to recall an awful lot of posts here complaining about how Woodson doesn't use the "ass meets bench" method of getting players to do what he wants nearly often enough.
