I remember a long time ago, Coach Knight on record saying that the most important stretch of a college bball game were the last 4 minutes of the first half AND the first 4 minutes of the second half.
In those middle 8 minutes, Purdue got us 18-5. We ended the first half in disaster mode, then didn't score the first 4 minutes of the second half (started 2nd half with 7-0 Purdue run).
In the other 32 minutes, IU wins 44-39. Ugly all around, but still...+5.
Maybe just cherry picking some stats based on one game, but anyone who watched that 8 minute stretch could tell one thing- IU was NOT going to win this game no matter how bad Purdue played.
Edit- not going back and doing the research but this applies to the Penn St game as well. We took a 12 pt lead and turned it into a 6 point deficit in that same span...luckily we woke up in the 2nd half.
