Joke of a hire

I’m beginnin* to think they are right. Our fans are toxic. And not very smart. I love all the knee jerk reactions here from people who likely know absolutely nothing about the guy. But are certain it’s a bad hire.
I don't know that it's a bad hire. It's an unexciting hire. Dolson had the chance to really knock it out of the park, but either could not or didn't want to take any risks. This is a safe hire. Uncontroversial. Unexciting. He'll have to earn strong fan support rather than being someone who has it walking in the door.

Again he was there 1 year and his best player got hurt. I’m willing to see what he can do with talent he can get at IU. I’m just ready to watch good basketball again. Woody ball was nauseating
You're already making excuses. Not easy to say WV and IU had the exact same record this year. I've been waiting for literally decades at this point for consistently good basketball. At best, DD is a question mark. He can win big and shut everybody up. He's got 2 years. If he's worth a damn, he'll do what Dusty May and Cignetti did this year next year.

I’d be willing to bet half of these guys know nothing about him.
Exactly the problem. He has no reputation. Think of a great working college coach. Before this week, was DeVreis even a name you knew much less would have in your top 10?

IU is basically the Yankees of college basketball right now- they are prepared to spend as much as anyone to get top talent. The expectation should be to win big immediately.

He increased WV win total by 10 games this year. They were dog shit before he got there

Who do you think he should have hired that would have been more exciting? That’s a bad statement and exactly why we are getting called toxic fan. What other fan base doesn’t automatically give support, but says their coach has to earn it? I support my coach automatically until there is a reason not to. And I would expect that from all fans.

And now they are mediocre?!? Pretty exciting hire. Woody was mediocre. Tom Crean and Archie had better resumes.

DD can win big in the next 2 years and shut me up. He's a question mark until he proves otherwise.
I got news for you…he isn’t winning “big” next year. He has to put an entire new team together.

Huh..
They'll be 12 -14 thousand there no matter who's coaching.

So did Louisville. I guess it depends on your definition of winning big. With our NIL money, I’d be very disappointed if we don’t make the tourney safely next year. In other words, not sweating out Selection Sunday.

Agreed. My only difference is that of course I will support him until he proves that he doesn’t deserve support.
What choice do any of us have? There are fans like me that aren't excited about this hire. If this guy is worth a damn, he will do what Dusty May and Cignetti did this year. We'll know pretty damn quick.

Winning big isn’t making the tourney in My definition. If that’s what they call winning big then yes, he should be able to make the tourney. Also NIL money doesn’t guarantee anything. You have to get guys that play hard and play together and form a team. We spent crap ton on individuals this year…not a team

Didnt see this happening I guess Goodman was right. He has alot coaching experience 17 years as a assistant built Drake into a really good team had a average year at West Virginia don't love the hire especially since it's a major risk again I guess nobody wants to coach Indiana anymore. Hopefully he proves us wrong but all this time for this wait and this is it kinda disappointing.

Right, I’d expect that next year, but then more by year two. That’s what I said in another thread. CDD has all the money he needs to go portal shopping. The first thing he will need to do is establish a very strong culture and bring in players who are willing to work their butts off and sacrifice for the good of the team.

Anyone who is in the conversation of current top college coaches. I get that maybe none were interested at any price. Doesn't make me excited about DeVries before he plays his first game.

Culture, system and leadership. Those 3 things will change IU for the better.

But do you think any of those were realistic? Kentucky and Louisville couldn’t convince any of them to leave.

Michigan won 8 games last year! Dusty May won, DD didn't. What was IU football's record before Cig? No f***ing excuses! People are already making excuses.
I’m not making excuses. I think what DD did this year at WVU is a success. Yes, what Dusty did was more impressive. That doesn’t mean what DD did at WVU isn’t. You think Michigans resources are similar to WVU? How about a little context…

Wtf? You're an actual idiot. In my post on the foorballboard had him in my top 5. His JMU team was huge that year. Just admit you don't watch football.
Exactly. I knew Dolson needed to do everything he could to get Cignetti when I saw him on the Pat McAfee show live on the JMU campus with all the students/fans in the background. The perfect coaching personality. Don’t think Devries has that after seeing post hire interview and interviews from the past. I really hope Ibhave to eat these words though.

But he did win. What aren’t you getting? They won 9 games the year before. He improved that by 10 games. Would you be happy if IU’s record improved by 10 next year.

If you think what DD this year at WV is a success, then go find Woody: exact same results. Being mediocre at a big boy school isn't exciting or a job well done.

Mediocre is better than sucking, true. But, IU just fired mediocre. Would DD do better at WV next year? He's a question mark. If he wants my support and ass in a seat, then just f'ing win.

If we had only won 9 games the year before, I imagine most of us would have been thrilled with 19 wins the next year. You’re being unreasonable and comparing apples to oranges.

No, I'm just not excited about mediocre. Imagine how excited UM fans are after winning 8 games. Dusty, like Brad and Thad, were in IU's back yard. If DD is worth a damn, then prove it immediately next year.

Well I don’t think Dolan is happy with mediocre either. Thad? You think Thad would have been a home run? You think Brad was coming from the Celtics? It’s disappointing we lost out on Dusty, but the fact that you are so dismissive of a guy who took a team from 9 wins to 19 wins, with his best player hurt ( not an excuse, a fact ) is just surprising. West Virginia is not the easiest place to recruit, has not much tradition, etc.

Thad in 2004 or so would have been a homer. Brad in 2012 or so would have been a homer. Dusty May would have been a solid hire. Yes, there have been really good coaches in IU's backyard that they have whiffed on.

What do you call Huggy Bear and Beilein? You are making excuses. IU was 19-13, 10-10, and no NCAAT this year. Call me crazy, but I'd rather hire a coach that has won and accomplished something at a big boy school.
