Sad to hear. Got to see Shumate play. I was in the stands to see the 1974 Mideast Regional at the Human Center in Terre Haute. Third row from the floor, center court. Marquette vs Ohio/Notre Dame vs Austin Peay. A lot of talent in the building. ND's John Shumate, Gary Brokaw, Gary Novak, Adrian Dantley, Dwight Clay, Bill Paterno. Marquette's Bo Ellis, Maurice Lucas, Earl Tatum, Marcus Washington, Lloyd Walton. And of course, Austin Peay's James "Fly" Williams. Very lopsided wins for the Warriors and the Domers. Couldn't remember a couple of players and had to use Google (Bill Paterno and Lloyd Walton) and I believe ND lost to a BIG 10 team, but can't remember which one. I'll "cheat," again. Sad news of Shumate's passing.
