Whatever basketball virus the men brought back from Rutgers, the ladies caught it and it almost sunk them. IU raced out to a 19-5 lead in the 1st and led 21-11 at the end of the period with Holmes and Moore-McNeal doing most of the scoring. IU has owned the 2nd period so far this season, but Illinois took it to them and outscored IU, 21-13, and IU had just a 34-32 lead at the half. Garzon was in foul trouble most of the 1st half with 3 fouls. The Illini are the nation's leading 3-point shooting team and they connected on 5 of 9 in the first half to include a banked in 3 near the start of the game. IU went scoreless over the final 4 minutes of the half. Illinois took a quick lead at the start of the 3rd going up 38-34 before IU fought back and took a 45-44 lead at the end of the 3rd. Illinois took the lead at the start of the 4th, and the lead swung back and forth the rest of the period. IU took a lead of 62-61 with 37 seconds left on a basket by Holmes. Illinois missed a shot on a great defensive effort by Holmes with Parrish getting the board with 6 seconds left. Parrish was fouled and made one of two for a 63-61 IU lead. Makira Cook, who really hurt IU with her scoring, missed a 6 footer and IU's Scalia was fouled and she added to the final score. Cook almost single handedly sunk IU with over half of the Illini's points with 33 on the day. Holmes scored 23 points as three Hoosiers scored in double figures. IU was hurt on the boards on both ends today.
