IU paid a record buyout for DeVries

Mark Pope had his roster put together in 3 weeks and they are good this season. We have more NIL than Kentucky or equal. I expect the same from DeVries. No baby steps. The right coach builds a winner immediately. Kelsey at Louisville, Pope at Kentucky, Golden at Florida. We better be good next season

Osterman tweeted IU paid a record buyout for DeVries. I assume Dolson’s job is on the line. Insane
And they plan to give him 7 million in nil. This was really all we could get for all that money?

Indiana also is building toward having north of $7 million in NIL + revenue-sharing resources, per source.

Paying the buyout means Scott got either the guy or one of the top few he wanted. So that's fine.

I don't know if we'll win huge but I don't have much doubt we'll win and see a lot of good basketball.
Feels like a breath of fresh air already.

Bet we do well recruiting right from the jump. And it won't be somebody else's list it'll be recruiting with his own eyes.

Cignetti at this point is a one year wonder. Let’s see if that success continues.
He's an all-time IU wonder! He won 11 games in his first season.

Do you have any idea how awful this program has been? This is how long it took his predecessors to get to 11 career wins:
Tom Allen: 4 seasons
Kevin Wilson: 4 seasons
Bill Lynch: 3 seasons
Terry Hoepner: 10 wins total in his 2 seasons
Gerry DiNardo: 8 wins in his 3 seasons
Cam Cameron: 4 seasons
Bill Mallory: 4 seasons
Lee Corso: 5 seasons

Coach Cig could retire tomorrow and still be the best IU Coach ever.

JFC. Yeah. Everything is desperation around here. I thinking many here are just desperate to bitch and moan, because it is what you’re used to the last couple pathetic years
People are just gun shy because of the last two hires. It could work but people are just lets see if it works

that's where I'm at. Won't start making any decisions in my head until midway thru next season. I'm out in Vegas at a trade show and could only check in periodically today as the news broke quickly. Figured I'd let it sink in and then assess my thoughts later tonight. Current mood is somewhere between ambivalent and numbness.

of course, if we get rolled at home by 20+ to Indiana State in the first game next Nov, big red flag.

And let's all agree to never mention Brad Stevens' name on this site again. Ever. That shipped sailed and sunk at sea 10-15 yrs ago. He's not coming back to college bball. And I'm strangely ok with that. Perhaps he was never going to part the Red Sea and lead us out of the desert. Maybe it's best it never happened. I mean, think about it...if Brad had come to IU, and in 4 yrs we're still floundering and we have "Fire CBS threads" ....we'd have no choice but to end the program for good and blow up Assembly Hall, dusty banners and all,

We need to land 1-2 rim protector bigs in the portal. Woody's Montverde pipeline dried up quickly, he didn't land any HS recruit bigs, and with Ballo leaving Bloomington under police escort and MR possibly heading to the U....we have no real bigs lined up for next year's roster. Gotta land a couple in the portal. Not seat wamers.....10/7 type guy and solid 10-15 min/game backup.

There’s a real chance the buyout could reach 6 million. This, and Woodson’s severance package is crazy money.
And we have that money to spend…..in spades. We aren’t #13 nationally in athletic revenue for no reason. Fans are still thinking this is the IU of old: always on the cheap. That doesn’t apply anymore. Chump change.

Why are people freaking out over this? It's the basic price of hiring a P5 bball coach. $6M buyout and it sounds like about $5M/yr over six years is pretty reasonable. Pope's buyout was about $6M for Kentucky and he is making about $5M/yr.

Also, our NIL is increasing next year, $7M is a lot, and then of course we have the rev share on top of that. That's nice work from Scott, sounds like he kept all the big time donors on side -- some of them liked Woody quite a bit and they also liked this hire enough to pony up more money.

Now we'll have to see how CDD performs. If he struggles okay, but I'm optimistic he will do well.

Woodson got rim protectors 10/7 last 2 yrs in a row so think DD can do same, hopefully get better wing defenders and hopefully Goode can come back in a backup role player

No. People aren't saying let's see if it works. They are absolutely panicking and making asses of themselves.
Which I love. Means this might actually work. This is our fan base typically knowledge. Reminds me of the Pacers drafting Miller instead of Alford. The fan outrage was insane and funny. Wish I could find the clip.

The committee did us a huge favor, by leaving us and WVU out. He's on board and apparently already has a 7-8mill NIL bankroll to play with. The rule is any player who's coach is leaving can put his name in the portal, so in addition to all the IU and WVU players and recruits, he can go after portal guys from IA, FSU, Miami, NC St not to mention check in with Mullins and Haralson. I think it will be a red flag if in 2 weeks time, we don't have most of our roster filled.

I'd encourage everyone to watch the Field of 68 After Dark podcast last night with Goodman and Doug McDermott. Can't believe he's been in the NBA for 11 years already but he loves the guy and said he needs to get IU gear. Said everyone assumes he went to Creighton because of his Dad, but said DD started recruiting him while Altman was still there and sold him and that's who he wanted to play for, and then his Dad kept him on the staff. Good X&O guy who is a grinder and workaholic. Took Drake from avg 12ish wins a season to 24. Got WVU to the cusp of the tournament with one of his top 2 players only playing 8 games, improved from 9 to 19 wins and beat: Gonzaga, Arizona, IA St, and Kansas among others I'm forgetting.

Not a name I was expecting, but I like what I'm hearing. His PC and the next 2 weeks will be very interesting, but I think the board needs to take a breath and give him a chance. Goodman said Dolson talked with McCollum twice and picked DD and DD picked IU over IA, and wants to be here and is bringing a really good player with him in his son at minimum.

Allen won his 11th game in the first game of his 3rd season. Get your point, but your numbers are way off.

Do you like to see teams that will shoot from outside and not just continually dump it down low to a big oaf while another big guy stands around out of the play? That’s what you are going to see with his offense. Devries has played lineups that will only put 1 big guy on the court at a time and relies on guards and wings.

Osterman tweeted IU paid a record buyout for DeVries. I assume Dolson’s job is on the line. Insane
But he was already in the black by his brilliant hire of Cignetti. Football is the cash cow and will cover the basketball error if it proves to be one.
