In a battle of top ten teams, the game stayed close throughout the 1st with IU getting a five-point lead at one point, but Maryland would get a 3-pointer and an old fashion 3-point play to regain the lead by one. It would be 20-19 at the end of the first with the Terps on top. The Terps were double and triple teaming Holmes every time she touched the ball. In the 2nd period, IU opened the period on a 5-0 run to take at 24-20 lead, but the Terps would close again at 24-23. IU would go on another little run with Parrish doing most of the damage and took a 29-23 lead. Berger already had five assists at this point. IU would push the lead up to 10 at the 4+ mark of the period as the Terps went cold and didn't score for almost five minutes. IU would get sloppy on a couple of possessions which allowed the Terps to trim the lead to 33-27 before Parrish hit on a basket with the half ending with IU up 35-27. Parrish led IU with 13 points at the half and was 3 of 5 on 3-pointers. Holmes had 8 points despite the double and triple teaming she saw. Both teams had 7 turnovers at the half, and no one was in foul trouble with both teams having no one with more than one foul. In the 3rd, IU would push the lead up to 10, but a deep 3 by the Terps would cut into the lead, and the teams would pretty much trade points with IU's lead anywhere from 7 to 10 points before the Terps cut it to five points at 45-40 at the 2:30 mark. A basket by Berger and a FT would move the lead back up to 48-40 with under one minute to go before a basket by the Terps would cut it to 48-42 with IU missing two FTs at the end of the period. IU is normally a good FT shooting team but they were just 6 of 13 from there going into the 4th while the Terps were 10 of 14. In the 4th, Maryland would cut the lead down to three points on a basket and FT after IU turned the ball over. Parrish would get her 4th foul at the over 7-minute mark on a charge. Holmes would get a bucket, but a 3 by the Terps would get the lead down to 50-48 at the 6:30 mark. Berger would then get her 4th foul on an offensive foul, but Coach Moren left her in the game. Maryland would tie the game at just over 6 minutes as the Terps seemed to get all of the breaks so far in the period. IU would then go on a 7-0 run on a 3 by Garzon and two buckets by Parrish and Berger to take a 57-50 lead at the 4:40 mark. Holmes would push the lead up to 59-50 before the Terps would cut into the lead at 59-54 at the under 2 minute mark. A 3 by Garzon and a 3 by the Terps would make the score 62-57, IU, with 1:05 and the IU with the ball. The Terps started putting IU at the line at the 41 second mark and they were able to put the Terps away from there. Parrish fouled out in the closing seconds, but led IU with 18 points while Holmes added 15.
