BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana was on its way to another Big Ten victory before a Northwestern goal in the 89th minute left the two teams in a 1-1 deadlock Sunday afternoon on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

The Hoosiers are now 5-1-3 on the season, 1-1-1 in Big Ten play. Northwestern is 4-1-4 overall, 0-1-2 in conference action.

Indiana had a 9-3 shot advantage in the first half and it showed, starting with an attempt from Dylan Lax had a follow-up shot that went over the crossbar.

In the 11th minute Oliver had a header off a corner kick from Jamie Vollmer, who put it on his left foot but send his shot just wide.

Keeping Miller, who had four saves in the first half, on his toes, it looked like IU had broken through with a goal from Oliver in the 25th minute. A shot from Thompson was saved, but Oliver was there to poke home the rebound. The assistant referee's flag was up, negating the goal and leaving the score at 0-0.

Indiana had one more good look in the first half when Hollinger-Janzen's shot up the middle was saved by Miller.

The second half began like the first with shots from Oliver and Thompson saved by Miller in the first 12 minutes. In the 62nd minute you could hear cries for a PK call in the stadium as Oliver was taken down inside the 18, but none was awarded.

The Wildcats first good chance in regulation came in the 68th minute when Joey Calistri turned and shot on frame, only to be stopped by IU goalkeeper Jack Griffith took a shot on the run for Indiana in the 70th minute, requiring a leaping save from Miller.

Indiana's pressure on Northwestern finally paid off in the 73rd minute when a penalty kick was called. Grant Lillard was brought down as he tried to connect with his head. Thompson stepped up to take the penalty and slotted home his second goal of the season as he caught Miller going the wrong way.

Northwestern was not going to go quietly as in the 83rd minute a shot from Nikko Boxall was cleared off the line by Lillard.

The Wildcats goal came with 1:03 left in regulation, beginning with a shot from Calistri that was blocked. A second shot from Nathan Dearth was saved by Webb, but his punch went up and sent the ball off the underneath of the crossbar, where it went back out to Brandon Medina who headed it in.

The shot tally in the second half was much more even with a 9-8 IU advantage and all five Hoosiers saves coming in the second period.

Indiana nearly ended the game 40 seconds into the first overtime with Oliver on a breakaway, but Miller came off his line and was able to smother the ball before Oliver could get a toe on it.

Oliver was again in on the action in the second overtime when his shot hit the side netting. With three minutes to go, Oliver sent in a cross that was just out of reach for Vollmer in front of goal.

The Hoosiers get no time to rest as the 10th-ranked Saint Louis Billikens come to Armstrong Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

inability to score goals sinks the Hoosiers again! We need to get this

corrected or it will be a very disappointing season

Whenever you score one or 0 goals a game you have put yourself in jeopardy

Losing or playing to a tie. It keeps every team in the game & allows much weaker teams to have a chance to tie or best you. It appears that we dominate in shots & shots on goal in almost every game, but struggle with scoring.
