I have not seen anything about Penn State's team this year, so any knowledgeable comments would be welcome.

Our OLine is terrible. Hack is still shaky at QB. Bright spot is freshman RB S. Barkley but nobody knows if he's going to play this week. Pretty much every D minus Rutgers that PSU has faced this year has had their way with that Oline (Buffalo 2nd half wasn't horrible)

So you're saaaayin there's a chance!?

The PSU offensive line is just that.....offensive.....they should be called the "Matadores" for all the ole'ing they have done, thus far. The play calling is vanilla at best.....jet sweeps.....wide receiver flare passes.....it's a wonder Hackenburg does not have more pick sixes to his credit. The special teams play (especially the punting unit) has a split personality.....some games incredibly incompetent, others looking stellar. The defense is stout....but there are only so many 3 and outs by the offense that they can contend with before they wear down. The coaching adjustments are minor, or non existant. The receivers are having difficulty seperating from defenders. Lay your money on Indiana......this is definitely your year to strike. Otherwise, come to Happy Valley and enjoy yourselves.....you will be pleasantly surprised how well you will be welcomed. Here is for good weather and a clean, hard fought contest. Good Luck!

This sounds like a past IU assessment. :)

Remember last September & October ----- when the IU defense was giving up lots of points and yards against lots of teams?

Then the Penn State offense showed up in Bloomington! 13 points allowed, and PSU was fortunate to get 7 of them (the out-of-nowhere long touchdown run).

Well ---- the Penn State offense thus far looks much like that November 2014 unit. Draw your own conclusions. :)

Our game will solely depend on the health of our QB/RBs. If we were at full strength, I'd predict IU as 10 point winners, but since we dont' know for sure who's playing, it'll likely be a pretty close game. As PSU fans have indicated, their offense is suspect in many areas, because their OL is just bad. A group of highly rated kids (4 stars and highly rated 3s) just haven't mixed well together yet. Personally feel like the game will be won or lost right there. Our DL vs their OL. If we can get the push and force Hack into his suspect decisions, I do believe we win. Wish we had Latham, as he would have a Wake Forest kind of day. I think as usual we will give up 20 some points, but I still think that'll be enough. They mix their RBs well in the true frosh and Lynch, but if Barkley is out as predicted, then it's going to be interesting to see who that the 2nd back is. Passing wise, Hack hasn't had much time to throw so that area is just not very good numbers wise. But Hack was the #1 ranked QB coming in, and some NFL teams are just salivating to grab him in the draft, so there's obviously a huge potential there for him to burn us badly.

Our OL will hurt their Defense no matter who is running and throwing the ball. I believe we will still score in the high 20s to low 30s. Though it's probably gonna be a grind it out kind of game especially if Sud doesn't play. The bottom line is I think both teams score in the 20s and if IU can get into the 30s, I think we come out with a win. I can say that this is one of the most determined teams I've seen come out of IU in a long time. The leadership amongst the team is really strong. We actually believe we can win. I think that adds a lot to us this year, that hasn't been there in the past. Most players think they can, but it's such a mental battle, that it's hard to actually will yourself. We willed ourselves to stay in the game last week, and that was really nice to see. We didn't win and maybe we could have if we'd gotten some more bounces our way, but staying in the game and coming back like we did, proved this isn't your average IU football team.

PSU can be beaten at their place. It's not an Everest type of feat. Just need to limit turnovers, turn them over, and play our game.

Well that makes me feel a LITTLE more confident. We'll see how things play out. About the only certainty is this game will be close. I know this because IU likes to play in the 4th quarter so they keep games tight no matter who they're playing.

Not sure IU's O line will "hurt their defense" as their D front is comparable to OSU's, who really won the battle with IU's O line last Saturday.

we got plenty of issues, but the D-Line ain't 1 of em. our D-Line's 2nd best in the conference to OSU. if anything, we're a little susceptible on the Read Option when the QB keeps & runs to the outside. Our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th DEs are very young and lack discipline. Indiana coaches know this. but overall...defense is not PSU's issue. obviously, we held you guys to 0 offensive points last year. I wouldn't imagine too many points scored w/Nate S in there, but then again...you put some points up against OSU....so who knows.

the game could be quite ugly

There of the 4 DL will be drafted next year. I say its more than pretty good. Entire defense is very good when healthy. Problems lie with the offense. With Barkley playing it will be a good game.

I just gotta say again how much I love PSU fans! The"Matadores O" is the best line lve read since being back on this site! I'm still laughing!

Some injury updates for PSU's offense.

1) Barkley (RB) looks like he will be able to go. He was practicing yesterday. May not get a full load of work.
2) Nelson (our best OT) was practicing a bit yesterday as well. I would still think that he will be out, but we may see him in a few series.
3) Mangiro (our center and best OL) was dressed but during the short media session he did not do anything. Hard to tell if he will be available. He is a 5th year senior, so he may be okay to go even if he didn't do much at practice.
4) Lynch (starting RB) is still no where to be found.

Should be interesting to see how PSU calls this game. 3 of our first 5 have been in the rain and our playcalling was super bland. Mistakes were minimized and we won those game (that's good) but we can't keep calling games like that. They are starting to take some more shots down field. Look for Godwin or Blacknall to be at the receiving end of those if he do take some chances. Again though, this is just a hard game to predict due to all the injuries.

PSU has won games with sacks and forced turnovers, neither of which will be easy to come by this week, as IU is top 5 in the nation in both categories. That right there is what this game will come down to IMO. Keep the QB clean, win the TO battle, and IU should win. If PSU does those things better, then PSU will win.

The Weather is going to be nicer and dryer than it has been for the past few Saturdays which will create better conditions for the pass game. Penn State has to take some shots downfield against the young Indiana secondary but expect the pocket to collapse quickly. Can Hack move around in the pocket and throw on the run? If he can buy a little extra time against our pass rush, he will be dangerous. If he stands like a statue he's going to get hit. I've noticed there is room to move forward in the pocket against Indiana's 4 man pass rush. Hoosiers may need to bring an extra LB up the middle.

Well Zander was the IU OB and the Hoosier offense did not score a pick 6 was IU's only score, Nate better play.
