IU basketball

Does this mean Brad Stevens is coming as just the GM ?!?

😉

🍺🏀🍺
Yes. After living and dining out in Boston he’s dying to get back to Bloomington so he can surround himself with shitty basketball players who make too much money gearing up for that big eastern Illinois game. Stevens owes them one! #unfinishedbusiness

We were turned down by multiple people. Recently a candidate backed out that had a verbal agreement.
Therein lies the problem. Indiana basketball isn’t that attractive of a job. Plus, it’s a pressure cooker. DeVries is bringing his kid, who’s a damn good player. And possibly two more West Virginia guys. Whoever was going to coach, I think we can all agree that rebuilding a roster from zero wouldn’t be enviable.

Here’s hoping he does well

He will be 50 in a month. Was at a mid major and has won one NCAA tournament game. Went to wvu and missed the tournament. In ten years from now if he has a 70 percent winning percentage in a major conf with two final fours he’d be a good iu hire. Iu is on par with wvu now in hoops? Not by resources. Completely uninspired and just rolling the dice on a nobody
In fairness to the guy, WVU had 8 wins the year before and Devries rebuilt the roster with limited NIL funds.

I need a favor...lets say around 5 years from now and I could be dead by then. So what I need is for somebody with a bit more confidence of still being around bookmark this thread for a down the road necro and post this as a reply to snarlcakes?

Thanks much...

Piss off. You don't get to die and free yourself of this misery. You're stuck, watching shitty basketball for several more decades.

It’s not a dig on him as much as what expectations are for a premiere program based on $, tradition, state, fans, resources etc. it’s a perfect hire for wvu Iowa state minny Vanderbilt and on and on. He’s skipped success at that level and leapfrogged to iu

He had a good class coming in to West Virginia as well, so he might be able to convince a kid or two to follow him. The kid from WV would be the tough pull, I'd imagine.

The only thing we are elite at is resources. Our tradition is long faded. We have not been relevant the last 25 years other than a couple seasons. There is a reason big names were probably not attracted to this job. Plus we require the coach to be clean. That eliminated a few guys.

Just looks like a nice family. We should have just road the roller coaster with the 🐐 he loved iu. And we’d have had great seasons. And horrible seasons. And insane entertaining things happen

Look at those eyes. The look he gave after the WatShot.......

Loved Tom and his love for IU, but let's face it - he was Cuckoo for Coco Puffs.

His kid is a good player but was injured all year. Some thought that they can bring a couple of good recruits from WVU that were on the roster this year. Fingers crossed that he can bring at least a couple and maybe keep a few guys on our current roster

Sounds like the hope that Fife and Matta could help make Woodson a college coach.....

We keep hoping things work out instead of getting someone we are certain to be a success.

I'm sure the guy will win. That's not the goal, as far as I can tell. We've fallen pretty far when we hire a guy who has won 1 NCAA play-in game when all the experts here wanted Knight fired for not making it to the Sweet 16 every year.

Hell, if we want a guy who can win and take us to the Sweet 16, why aren't we hiring Alford? He's only done it with 4 teams.

Stop spending so much then. Allocate it elsewhere. Poor management

They’re soft!
Or smart. Let's say you're regularly banging a 9, and it's nice and private, and no one is bothering you. Then someone comes along, and says, hey, McM, I'd like to give you this great opportunity to bang a 10 for a few years, and we'll pay really well, but twice a week, 40,000 assholes get to cram into the bedroom and scream at you about how much you suck at what you're doing. And then as soon as the game ends, they go online and post about how they could do it better.

*Edit: please note, I could have made an analogy with a law practice or manufacturing Chinese edibles, or whatever, but I chose to go this route just to highlight how deep it cuts.
