I have no idea what he did as an assistant coach exactly or how well he did his job. I liked him as a fan when he was a player (except when he fouled Jason Williams with 4 seconds left). Suffice it to say, working well together with the head coach and your colleagues on the staff are big parts of being an assistant coach and he failed at that. I think if he were some sort of basketball coaching savant he’d be a head coach by now. For perspective, he and Archie Miller graduated in the same year.
He gets a free $375k for his trouble. Everyone moves on. We’ll never know the whole story, which is ok with me. According to this, he was the highest paid assistant and received a raise from his MSU salary:
