Winthrop coach is headed to Xavier that's why he bailed on the UMass presser 30 minutes before announcement.

Pin this thread at the top. I would like to come back and gloat later like @fpeaugh

Chris Mack

  • Played for and graduated from St. Xavier High School, here in Cincinnati
  • Played for and graduated from Xavier University, here in Cincinnati
  • Assistant Coach at Xavier University, here in Cincinnati
  • Head Coach at Xavier University, here in Cincinnati
Is Indiana University moving to another location, here in Cincinnati?

You have this post on speed-post, don't you . . .

. . . you don't suppose Mack is bored living in Cincinnati do you . . . especially since there is no foreseeable improvement in the Reds . . . .

Pretty much.

Mack and Cronin own this town. Both from the GCL (Greater Cincinnati League), the power-house Catholic schools conference, which includes Moeller. This place is so provincial that a picture of the city is just about all you'll find in the dictionary under "provincial".

Reds and Bengals suck, now and for the foreseeable future.

I'd say there might be a 0.5% chance Mack's the guy.

He gone. Cincy will have to find a new face of the city.

I do enjoy how you speak about Cincinnati as if it's some foreign land that most of us have never been to. It's a stones throw down the road from Bloomington. Any IU grad has either spent a lot time in Cincy or knows a considerable amount of people from there. Most people probably both.

If it ain't Mack will you take a year long hiatus from the board as a consequence of your, um, certitude?

You know, Georgetown might be a good fit for a guy like Mack. Catholic school in the same conference, but an expanded recruiting base and a higher profile/more money . . . and no more Cronin to put up with.

It's all opinion and speculation. It's all good.

For example, Paul Daugherty, the local sports sage/columnist, declared that the "Indiana job" falls below the "Xavier job". Okaaaay, I guess.

Come to think of it, Georgetown might be a good lily pad for the Winthrop coach, since he's already recruited in the area and has a good Catholic school background.

Middle name of "Homer"?

I'll bet he's still a fan of the Big Red Machine . . . .

Mack played his first two years at U of Evansville (Indiana). His coach there was Jim Crews (IU '76).

Just sayin'

(He was a scrapper, too...crowd favorite).

Actually, he's a Pirates fan and a Redskins fan, both due to his father.

Been a thorn in Mike Brown's backside for years, so he's got that going for him.

Pirates? Redskins? Isn't that combination an admission that he knows nothing about basketball?

This town had the Royals and the Big O.

And then they didn't. That's all you need to know. Oh, and the UC/X brawl.

I'd have loved to see the O in his prime playing against Jordan, Bird and Magic in their primes. I'm not sure that Jordan was any more of a competitor than the O was . . . .

I'd be shocked if it ends up being Mack. I think he's way down the list and I don't know anyone lobbying for him. Anything could happen but right now I'm not hearing Mack's name mentioned much.

Which is the better, or at least preferable, coach, between these two?

I don't like how Mack handled the crosstown brawl a few years ago. Cronin did a much better job for accepting accountability and sitting players whon deserved it. Mack was IMO an embarrassment. I wouldn't want either but if I had to choose, Cronin is a better man

Is Alford still the main name? Please tell me it's Billy D!

Alford still has a lot of people pulling for him but I don't think it'll end up being him. I don't think Glass wants that controversy right off the bat. Many are shocked that Alford isn't more popular than he is.

The Donovan noise is real. I've been told he's listening to IU but hasn't made a decision yet one way or the other. Definitely not a done deal but it's possible. IU is playing this pretty close to the vest. Guys I've known since my college days who are always in the know don't seem to have a good grasp on things right now. It's oddly quiet. We'll see.

I thought he was popular on the Indiana HS recruiting front. Their roster is not full of Indiana players so who knows. If FG finds that to be true in his data gathering from HS coaches could that move him up. . I really like watching X and how his teams play.

He's well respected from everything I've heard. But 3-5 guys would have to turn it down before Glass gets to him I believe.
