Fair point, but also, in fairness: did their programshave literally 0 returning players, and the portal, NIL and $ to burn? And, yes, it may work out and all of us worrying might be proven 100% wrong, I sure hope so!

Which players would you retain? You have a coach who has to revamp the culture...from getting paid to go through the motions to winning as a well-oiled machine. That's a bridge too far with the roster that left. Honestly....the guys who were team-oriented aren't necessarily B1G level players. There's no room for sentimental tokens on the roster. No matter how the recruiting winds up...it will be a different culture. That alone represents progress.
That’s really what most fans want. That’s the exact reasons I like Beard so much too. I also liked that about Coach Knight. I love seeing a team improve all season and play to their potential as a team. I’m giving CDD a chance and hoping he can do that here at IU as well. That’s what made this year tough…there was so much talent wasted.

Pre portal. Easier to sell a kid to stay. It’s hard to judge pre portal to today imho. I go back to looking at who UK, UM and UL all kept and what they got. I’m taking the more patient route.
And again, yes, but the basics don’t change. It takes time and just because he’s paid more money doesn’t mean he’s going to do this any faster than he or anybody else has done before.

Full roster? No. I probably expected more than one guy (Sisley was already committed and Tucker was a given) by now though.

You got it wrong, 90 % of those coaches said NO! Not interested, so simple, not hard to figure it out. IU did OK, it just isn't one of those add a drop of water and instant Final 4. This one might work out this time, IF IU fans have patience. Good Luck with that.

I think DeVries is a good coach, would have been interesting to see what he would have done with those player's, all the jokers on here do is look at stats, if those 3 played elsewhere last year and we got them out of the portal most would be doing cartwheels

Yep. I’ve heard two different things, one that Beard didn’t have an interview and two that he was given a courtesy interview. No idea which is true. But what I am almost sure is true is that Beard was not at all close to being the hire and that Whitten wasn’t the only obstacle to his hiring.
